My computer blue screened and refused to load xp. I put the drive in an external case to move my files to another computer and wanting to do a clean install formatted the drive and partitioned a section for installing a linux os. I put it back in my computer and tried to install xp. It says no harddrive found. The harddrive shows up in the bios by brand name and model number. Plus I installed ubuntu to it and am using it right now. Still when I try to install xp it says no harddrive and to make sure the drive is connected properly. I'm using a dell xp home sp2 cd with my dell dimension desktop.

Hello and welcome to the forum

Is the drive SATA or PATA?

If you are installing on SATA drive, there is an additional step:

Sata, Maxtor 7V250F0. I'm having a hard time finding drivers. But I don't have a floppy drive anyway and I'm not in a location that I can just run out and get one. Looks like I'm stuck using only ubuntu for a week. No pc games for me.

Some BIOS allow an Alternate method for SATA . . Go into the bios and check the "Sata Operation" setting, change it to "Raid Autodetect/ATA
