How lads

Wonder if someone out there can help me

I recently obtained a new, to me, laptop. I have managed to set it up so that it dual boots Windows XP and Windows 7. I want XP because there are some old games that I have that only run on XP.

Getting the drivers I require is my problem. Obviously Microsoft are no longer supporting XP and looking at the manufacturer website XP as an OS is not listed

Can anyone suggest where to get the outstanding drivers. I used a program, reluctantly, to automatically find the drivers and was welcomed by no end of bloatware.

My understanding is that XP was still supported when the laptop was current.

The laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ61-310 sa

If anyone can suggest any solutions I'd greatly appreciate it

What drivers are missing? Since HP does not have XP drivers, you can look in Device Manager on the Windows 7 system for a description of the devices and google for AP drivers

My System

All drivers for computer devices are provided by the Manufacturer. In later versions of Windows, Microsoft included many of the most popular drivers in their OS. And many drivers can still be obtained via Windows Update for Windows XP.
As Old Rich has said, in XP, go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager, any devices with yellow flags requires drivers.
First try the Windows 7 drivers from the HP Drivers site HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HP® Customer Support
If you still require drivers and have done all of the Windows Updates, then learn https://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...rs-419050.html

Guys – thank you so much for your prompt replies. It’s reassuring to know that help isn’t far away

Old Ritch: At the risk of being thick I'm not entirely sure what you meant by “AP drivers”. Could you elaborate please?

Spunk.funk: Once again I am in your debt. It was my understanding that as Microsoft were not supporting XP any more I wouldn’t be able to get any drivers from them. I certainly didn’t think that I could use Win 7 drivers as possible alternatives. Good shout.

I’ll undertake both processes in the next few days and report back in.

Thanks again

Guys

Reporting in to say "Thank you"

It turns out I was able to use the Windows 7 drivers for the missing drivers that I had. Something I would never have thought of using until it was kindly suggested.

Many thanks

I'll mark the thread as "Solved"
