hi folks,

I'm currently running Windows XP SP3 on a netbook which is connected via WiFi to the internet. One of the executable programs I use require the netbook to be offline before it can load properly.

What I wanted to know was, is it possible I can write a command line prompt that will automatically kick in when the executable runs. The prompt would disconnect the WiFi, allowing the program to boot offline without having to manually disconnect everytime.

Thanks in advance for reading the post

Hi

For more information you can read this document Enable/Disable Wireless Card from Command Line

First you have to download devcon.
Unzip it and copy the unzipped devcon.exe file to c:\windows\system32

Then create a file in notepad, copy the code below and paste it into the file. save it to your desktop as something like myprogram.bat:
Code:
devcon disable *DEV_001C*
program.exe
devcon enable *DEV_001C*
The device ID (DEV_001C) is found in your dxdiag.txt file that you attached and is the device ID of your Wireless card.
Program.exe is the name of the executable program that you want to run - change it to the name of your program's file name.
The batch file will disable the wireless card, then run the program. Once you exit the program the wireless card will be enabled again.

Or else
Code:
devcon disable *DEV_001C*
start program.exe
devcon enable *DEV_001C*
This batch file will disable the wireless card, Start the program and then enable the wireless card regardless of whether you are still in the program or not.

Note Devcon is a very powerful tool and you will have to be logged in as an administrator to run it.
