hi, im having some troubles with my xp operating system! I have a virus that has done too much damage to be repaired, and I am in the process of installing the new OS Windows 7 RC. I can get as far as the second screen of the installation progress, then I get a message along the lines of: "The installation failed because the COM failed to initialize." I've had a reccomendation to re-format my hard drive, but I want to make sure its the right thing to do. any suggestions?

Thanks, I went home yesterday and erased everything then re-installed and older copy of Windows XP Home Edition (really awful) then restarted my PC with the Windows 7 disk in the drive, it updated and installed right away! Of course, I now have another problem with the fact that wiping the disk seemed to have deleted all of my updates for my drivers. My max display mode is now 640X480, and my sound and printer drivers are Non-existent. Iam notconnected to the internet so there's no way of updating online. Any thoughts?

You will have to get the drivers off another PC that is connected to the internet and transfer them over using a flash drive or a blank CD.

Reinstall your motherboard drivers first.
