Hi, I am unable to install the drivers for my VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adaptor.
This is a NIC built into the motherboard. I have the mb disk with correct drivers and each time I use Hardware Update Wizard to install from disk location, it says Cannot Continue Hardware Update Wizard.

Drivers are correct plus I have downloaded them from internet again

NIC Status in COmputer Manager is: "This dev is not working because Windows cannot load the drivers req for this dev."
It is enabled.

If I use hirens network boot disk and boot to mini xp, the nic works perfectly well and hirens finds drivers from its own generic driver folder.

What is going on here? I am presuming there is a problem with Windows somewhere and not the NIC.

You don't need to use the update wizard, simply run the install program from the CD.

Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In the Device Manager, Right click the Network Adapter with the Yellow mark and uninstall it. Nww run the install from the CD, or from your download folder If there isn't a setup on the CD then right click any device in the Device Manager and choose Scan For Hardware Changes, this will start the new Hardware Wizard let it scan your CD for the driver or browse it to the driver download folder.
