Hi all, I'm just trying to upgrade my mother's old XP machine to Win 7 and am unsure about the correct 32 bit Win7 software package to buy. The results from the Win7upgradeadvisor were good, but looking online I'm seeing Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate and quite a wide variety of price ranges for each of the similar products (Home Premium for instance showing $48, $32, $7, $149, $40.... ??).

Mum only uses the machine for listening to music, emails, some basic card/puzzle games and limited internet browsing (reading the paper and listening to music on youtube).

If anyone could suggest which product would do the job best (and if there is a variation within "Home Premium" hence the differing prices) I would be very grateful.

Thank you
Peter

The price may vary if it is just the install DVD amd not the Product key EULA. Or if it is an OEM Disc or a Retail disc with the Product key. Where are you seeing these packages?
For your mothers needs, she probably just needs Home Premium.

Thanks for the response spunk_funk! I thought Home Edition would be the one to get but I thought it best to check. In terms of the prices, the various packages came up when I was searching for info on what was required to upgrade from XP to Win7 which was where the confusion set in for me.

The price variation threw me a bit and I wasn't sure what all of the different packages were actually offering. I assume from the one I've attached that you get a download of the Win 7 OS and a product key and that's all that is required?

If that's the wrong package or there's a better option I'd appreciate any additional info you might have. Thanks very much for your help.

Hi there,

I concur with the "Home Premium" choice. This Windows 7 version should be good enough for what she does with the computer.

I don't know if that is a DVD that they ship you or a download.
Be sure it includes SP1 and is the latest version

I don't see Service Pack 1 in that ad, be sure to get Windows 7 disc with SP1 included.

Thanks spunk.funk, it is included. After your "be sure" message, I checked with them before I bought it. I installed Win7 last night and am now in the process of reloading all the music etc. Thanks again for the help!
