Sounds like an over-heating issue. What is your CPU temp at idle and under load?

If over-heating is suspect, a simple (low tech) way to isolate is to open the case and aim a common house fan (16"-20") at it. This will approximate maximum air-cooling for your system.

If the spontaneous shutdown doesn't occur, then you know you have a heat issue.
