Hi I am trying to fix a friends comp. The "unable to locate component" window pops up for at least 15 processes. Everyone of them is due to "msegvj.dll" is not found. I searched this dll and didn't get any results. When I am able to get to taskman. it lists these processes as running and consuming mem. I am unable to open just about everything except IE,which surprisingly runs. I can't use sys rest. or any other tools. Please help......

I was not in safe mode; I was reluctant to try the recovery cd for fear of losing all his pics et al . Should I think of this as an only option or last resort?

Backup the hard disk and its important contents first before you start playing around with it. Mount it in an external enclosure, attach it to a different computer and copy out what you need first. Data that is not backed up is data that you don't care about. Has your friend thought about what he would do if his hard disk failed completely one fine day?

Thanx, I'll try it. It seems odd that there isn't any search results for this particular .dll. that is causing the problem.Does this means it's a virus?
