Question

Since I have done a complete restore I get a system32\cdm.exe window pop up after the welcome. Also after I clicked a link in big fix window to fix a problem the window popped up. It most have gotten compromised by the restore.

Does anyone know it's function? Is it possible to restore the file? Is it wise to remove? How would I remove it?

Hi. . .

Is the name of the file as you stated - cdm.exe or is it cmd.exe?

Also - why did you perform the system restore?

Regards. . .

I am positive that it is cdm.exe.

Problems I had using comodo firewall lead me to do a system restore. For after installing comodo firewall I kept getting windows installer pop up. In haste to get rid of windows installer pop up clicked something in error. Then did a simple restore in safe mode. End result was unable to log on. Just got message that a file was missing.

Hi. . .

Can you log on to the system at all - what about SAFEMODE w/Networking or selecting Last known good configuration?

You need to be able to log onto that system as you should procees to our Security Center, HiJackThis Log Help Forum, and follow THESE FIVE STEPS before posting any logs.

Regards. . .

Hi. . .

Ok then - if you are sure it is cmd.exe - then perform the following to run the System File CHecker. You will most likely need your XP CD:

START | Run | type cmd hit enter.

Type the following:

sfc /scannow

Let it run - may be 10 min or an hour.
