Hi webblaw and welcome to TSF.

I need you to check for the location of wmiprvse.exe for me. It should be located in:

Quote:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wbem\
However, if it is located in:

Quote:
C:\Windows\System32
or

Quote:
C:\Windows
Please reports back.

I found it in

C:\i386
C:\windows\prefetch - file name is WMIPRVSE.EXE-0d44984F.PF
c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386
c:\windows\system32\wbem

I don't think you need the hidden file locations but if so, they are located in:

c:\windows\$ntservicepackunistall$
C:\windows\$NtUninstallKB956572$
c:\windows\$hf_mig$\KB956572\SP2QFE
c:\windows\$hf_mig$\KB956572\SP3GDR
c:\windows\$hf_mig$\KB956572\SP3QFE

Thanks!

Hi webblaw,

The locations look fine. Just needed to confirm that as if it were located in a different location it could point to a worm or other infection.

Let's try this:-

Window Key+R and type MSCONFIG and hit OK.
Under 'Services tab', tick 'Hide all Microsoft Services' and then uncheck the remaining programs and 'Apply'
Then under 'Startup tab' - hit the 'Disable All' and OK

Then reboot and see if that helps. Trying to see if a program or something else may be interfering.

When I stopped services I get a system configuration Error! "An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on as administrator account to make specified changes" . I am signed on as administrator

Pretty sure that's Webroot Anti-Virus telling you that. Go back to msconfig and only re-enable Webroot products (keep the Microsoft ones hidden so it makes it less cluttered to locate Webroot) check it's boxes in both Startup and Services.

You log into your computer as Administrator correct?

Not as your administrator user account but as the Hidden Built in Administrator account only accessible from Safe Mode?

Ok if you can boot up normally and there is no problem, then you are done, but if you were denied when you tried to turn off a service because you weren't logged in as Administrator, then try turning it off now. Many services need to run to keep the operating system working and will not let you turn them off.

I can see in your logs that you have Microsoft Security Essentials running as well as some traces of AVG v9 left over.

I would keep Microsoft Security Essentials as your only anti-virus, and remove Webroot completely. Don't use add/remove as anti-virus programs are tricky to completely remove.

For Webroot, go here and download the removal tool (WRCleanupTool.exe)

For AVG please go here

Both of these will require a reboot after each removal program has been run.

You also have a couple of browser toolbars installed. It's upto you if you wish to keep them, but it's another addition that your browser has to load whilst opening. They may be hidden, but they are there. Check in add/remove to uninstall them. In your logs you can see them as BHO's (02 - BHO)
1] Lexmark Toolbar
2] Adobe PDF Conversion Toolbar Helper

Sounds like you found the problem and removed it. If you are satisfied, you can mark this thread solved in the Thread Tools at the top.
