Sounds like you did a Factory Recovery. All your files are probably still there, but until you take ownership, the folders will appear to be empty, and will give you an Access Denied message.
If you look under C:\Documents and Settings, do you see your old account folder?
Also check the root of the drive for something like C:\My Backup

You can run this little batch file to get a list of all folders you don't have access to, to see which may contain your files:
Copy the text in the following code block into Notepad.
Save it on the desktop as FindAccessDenied.cmd
. Be sure to change the Save as Type:
box to All Files
If Exist "%_File1%" Del "%_File1%"
If Exist "%_File2%" Del "%_File2%"
Echo.Please wait while I scann the drive for inaccessible folders
Echo.This may take several minutes. The file will be opened in Notepad
Echo.when the scan is completed. Accessable folders will be in a file
Echo.named AccessableFolders.txt located on the Desktop.
For /R "C:\" %%I In (.) Do Pushd "%%I" 2>Nul &&(Echo Folder %%I Accessable>>"%_File1%"&PopD) || (Echo Folder %%I Access Denied>>"%_File2%")
Start "" Notepad "%_File2%"
Double click the file to run it. It will create a two files on the Desktop named AccessableFolders.txt
