thanxs a mill for the reply on the BSOD and the memory issues. i did remove one memory module and voila the pc ic working. will download applicable memory testing program to establish whether it's the mobo or the memory module. thanxs again
back to the sahara laptop though. there is a small light on the laptop that indicates harddrive activity but this light shows no activity when the laptop is powered on. when i press f2 to enter the bios i am asked for a password. i have never before gone into the bios and never set a password. can this action be bypassed and how? i can however skip but then the laptop goes to the POST screen and after some time i am stuck with "missing operating system". for now i am concerned about getting into the bios to establish harddrive presence and operation

We are not allowed to help bypass the password on the BIOS here at TSF. You can try known default passwords or contact the manufacturer for the password.

You have a Bios password set by an Administrator. As Chief explained, due to forum rules we cannot help in bypassing Passwords.
As for the RAM, download the ISO image of Memtest, burn the image to CD with IMGBurn both available in my signature, boot off of the newly created CD and run the tests for at least 7 passes each on each RAM chip separately. If you get any errors in the lower pane (Red) that stick is bad and needs to be replaced.
You can remove the HDD from the computer and attach it internally to a desktop computer or via a USB Adapter or put it into a USB Dock or Enclosure with a power adapter. If the drive doesn't spin up, it needs to be replaced.

When password security questions aren't secure
When you select a password, you might choose to store it in a password manager, write it down, or commit it to memory (see How to remember passwords for some advice). Sometimes, however, things go wrong: You find yourself without access to your password manager, you lose the paper on which you...
