I recently upgraded two PCs from 2000 to XP Pro. One machine had the Administrator account renamed to User1 originally and the upgrade to XP completed with success. The other PC kept the Administrator named the same but when XP asked for other user names, it left out the name Administrator [account] and now I am stuck with a second account with NONE of my originial settings like Outlook Express accounts, IE favorites.. etc.

What can I do to restore them or use the original Administator account? It isn't even a choice on the screen! ??!

If you can access the folders of the account in question, here is a link to MS Knowledge Base that may help you. Whatever you end up doing you will have to have admin rights.

Thank you for that information. But let me ask this from a different angle, How can I sign on as Administrator to the user- Administrator when that name does not show up as a user, but the Administrator folder exists in Documents and Settings???-- If I can get back in, then I haven't lost any of my settings..

Press CTRL+Alt+Del at the logon prompt when the buttons are displayed and you will get the traditional logon screen where you can type any username you like.

That's the problem. I am not getting the windows login where you select the user name, password, and an option for the domain...

I get the stupid icons to the left and Administrator is not one of my choices.

Yes, that's when you must press CTRL+Alt+Del and it will disappear and be replaced by the logon window

No, that's not it..
but I did find it, You have to de-select the Windows WELCOME check box in the user accounts, then you get the classic logon. Then I am able to type Administrator or any other name of user I want.
