Hi, I have heard that with Windows XP Pro it is o.k. to remove USB flash drives without clicking in the system tray and using the "safely remove hardware" option -- As long as files aren't actively being transferred. I've looked online, and I've found websites that argue both sides of the issue. Which is correct?
With Windows XP (and incidentally Windows Server 2003) it is absolutely 100% fine to remove USB Memory Sticks without using the GUI first. I can't vouch for other USB devices as it depends entirely upon the device.
This statement applies, as stated, ONLY to Windows XP and Server 2003. It DOES NOT apply to Windows 2000 or any previous operating system.
