Does anyone know if there is a default path assumed for a registry key data field (e.g., for a services key or a current run key) if there is no path specified and only a file name. For example if HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
has a file name for a data entry with no path, e.g., abc.exe would there be implicit path of say c:\windows\system32\drivers (or whatever the path xp assumes), or does the path always have to be explicitly stated???

Thanks for your help.

There are implicit paths for some keys. As far as where that's determined and for which keys, I have no idea.
