If you can see normal (http) Web pages but can't see secure (https) Web pages their may be several causes.

Check the date and time on your computer. If your date and time are behind the current date and time then you may not be able to view secure Web sites.
Click fhere for help on how to check your system date and time.
Check your proxy settings. If you are connected through a Local Area Network (LAN) then make sure that you have outbound access through port 443 for secure https Web sites. Please check with your system Administrator before changing any settings.
Click for more help with checking your proxy settings.

Check your Web Browser's security settings. For more help on Internet Explorer's security features click here

Download Hijack This from the link below. Create, copy and paste a log here. Please don't fix anything, yet, as most of the stuff is necessary and harmless.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\sistray.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SiS Tray] C:\WINDOWS\System32\sistray.EXE

This kiddo could be the culprit, as it likes to mess with browsers.

Open a new HJT log and check these two items to be fixed. Then, with all explorer and browser windows closed, tell HJT to fix them.

Reboot.

See if that has any effect and let us know.

cheers guys :D ,

Thats it. Never thought it would be my firewall as I have not touched this for ages. I have had to uninstall and reinstall it to ensure its fixed.

However this has opened up more issues as I found that all the settings were on low - something I would never do!

Down to installing and scanning my system for nasty stuff

Cheers

Si.
