I got a Gateway computer which used to have Windows 98 on it. It was wiped with dban and now when you turn it on it displays the gateway logo then goes to a black screen that says it needs a boot disk in the a: drive. It currently has no operating system. The computer's specs meet that needed of Windows XP Pro and I have the setup and installation disc on hand. I just need help creating a boot disk that will allow the cd/dvd drive to work so I can install XP.
You don't need a boot disc if you have a Windows XP install CD. This CD is bootable. First you must get into the Bios and change the Boot order so that CD rom drive is the First Boot Device, save (F10) Then put your XP CD in and restart the computer. You should get the message "Hit Any Key to Boot from CD" and when you hit a key the Windows installation starts.
