I downloaded the service pack and an update to Norton in the last 10 days. I don't know which caused the problem, but I suspect Windows.

In the My Document folder, the links to any file that has a name that starts with the letters N-Z are gone. Links to folders such as My Pictures, My Webs, My Videos are also missing. They are also missing from the Microsoft Office applications like Word and Excel.

Whenever I save something with a file name that starts with those letters, it doesn't save it. But the files are still in the computer.

Also, when I do a search of the files, they do come up, but I cannot paste them or save them into the My Documents file.

The files are still on my computer, but I can't get to them. How do I restore the My Documents file to work properly. I am using Windows Xp.

Heh, I've never heard of something like this. Have you tried a simple system restore to 11 days ago?

I'd also scan for viruses, just in case.

Hi jbehrens57,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

If you are using Norton AntiVirus or Internet Security you should restart your computer in Windows Safe Mode and perform a "Full System Scan" to check for infections.

If you are using Norton 360 2.x, then perform a "Comprehensive Scan" in normal Windows mode.

If you have already scanned and there were no infections found, try doing a System Restore to the time before you installed the updates to see if the problem still exists.

Thank you,
Mike
