My computer is Dell dimension 8400, 4 GB RAM, Windows XP, SP3,…. ( I know its an obsolete system, still have to stay with it )

It has latest windows updates,…. Also have cleaning software like ASC, smartdefrag, super antispyware, IObit, Spybot S and D, Ccleaner,…

Computer slows down a lot and any action takes too much time,... It winds up errors of Index deleting in chkdsk ( if checked at cmd / dos command prompt in windows XP )

Following errors are coming continuously and I have to restart my Browser ( Mozilla 52.3.0 , 32 bytes ) with closing all surfing Tabs,..

( I had done refreshing of Mozilla browser also many times no help ) It does slow working in google chrome too,.. computer runs pretty slow,...... not only surfing but without surfing any operations like moving mouse, highlighting, scrolling pages up and down and it chokes and jams,,...

I ran in safe mode, and cleaned with above software almost 10s of times,..... also I checked and repaired the windows system, with,... Tweaking.com windows repair software,..... also I ran command SFC / scannow ( which takes 20+ minute sand at the end, shows no results or no nothing,....... no mssgs at all )

" A breakpoint has been reached

(0x8000003) occurred at the application location of 0x1000f7ca "

Also in Dos prompt commands, using CHKDSK,… ( I also did chkdsk /F at next start up , many times,… and still it does )

It also brings these errors in $I30 files,…. Over and over,…. after 10 min of use, computer slows down,.. jams,. chokes up,.. runs very slow,.. [ I hate reformatting as, My org CD is 12+ ysr old with SP1 and it's difficult to install all programs back,.. etc )

I am afraid of sfc /scannow command as my original CD is windows XP with SP1 from Dell,……. And after that inn 10+ years it was updates with millions of windows update, and hence,.. setting back to the original system is like all new formatting, also in past using windows C D and doing “ r “ with repair ( took 45 min to 3

Hours ) had never worked, as my original Dell’s win XP , SP1 installation CD is too old,…

Have done the disc cleaning and defragment and such almost every 3 days,.. ( using winXP’s commands as well as the packages mentioned above ) . After repairing with tweaking.com software ( on-line ) it run s10 minutes fine n' again slows down,..

Have done chkdsk/f at start up almost 10s of times,...... same problem is over and over,... so many index file deleting errors

1TB seagate drive is nearly new,...... and in seagate quick test - checking also in Windlg ( quick test of WDC ) shows,... drive as ok,.....physically.

Please do not post Hijack This logs here. We cannot comment or help with Virus/Malware here. Plesee click on the link in my signature for Virus/Malware Help if you think you are infected,
Please run Check Disk with the /R switch (ie) chkdsk /R this will take a long time as it checks for Bad Sectors. Also, run Seatools Long Test. If either test fails or hangs for a very long time, the drive needs to be replaced,

1. I do not know whether it has malware/virus,.. unless you study the log and suggest me.., please.
2. I have scanned the computer with
Spybot s and d, malware bytes, Iobit, Advanced system care, Norton antivirus and Norton power erase, super antispyware etc,…. Almost 10s of times,…. No virus or disorder it show,..
3. I will run seagate long test and also will scan again as suggest by you, in your signature link,..
4. chkdsk /r or chkdsk /f I did 20+ times at the start of computer, by ordering in cmd ( during windows ) and it starts at every re-boot,..

Thank you and I will let you know of the results,…

When you run Check Disk with the /F switch and there are corrupted files that reside on Bad Sectors, Check Disk will delete index files that are corrupted due to being on Bad Sectors and there are no Good Sectors near by to save the file to.
Check Disk with the /F switch and SFC /scannow check for missing or corrupted files and SFC will replaces them.
Check Disk with the /R switch, checks for missing files and it checks for Bad Sectors, the same thing Seatools Long test does. If you have no bad sectors, the Check Disk with the /R switch will take an hour or two. If you have a few bad sectors, the long test and Check Disk /R will take several hours. If you have too many Bad Sectors, the Long Test will fail. Check Disk may take overnight or longer and it will delete Corrupted Files, it may save them as Found.000, Found.0001 etc, these files will likely be unusable.. If this happens, the drive is beginning to Fail and it should be replaced.

Thx for that info,.. sir,…

In WinXP,.. I think,..

/r and /f ( repair or fix ) is acting like one and the same command,… and you can order it, in cmd, ( while your windows is running ) which it does ( chkdsk/f ) when you boot and restart the computer next time,…

All the three commands I have done it by 10s of times in past few weeks,.. ( it acts like 15 minutes of temporary relief making the computer lighter – quick responses ) but after running the computer and surfing for 1 hour it builds up those things again,… computer starts getting heavy,… ( even mouse curser moving or highlight, or switching tabs of diff opened browsers takes 5-7 seconds,… and computer acts like it has little jammed/ choked up, although it’s not a total crash though… )

I think, I will run long test from seatools and Windlg ( WDC site’s similar free software ) , though quick tests passes in both,….

I may try getting command prompt in safe mode, by pressing F8 at dell logo and again do these commands, which I have not done yet,…

My situation is,… my org dell SP2 CD is 12+ yrs old and it has system in it,.. which is the most original 12 yrs ago and after that,… SP3 came and tons of other MSFT updates came,… so, that CD, if you even trust and clean with it thoroughly ( do windows repair while booting from that CD and pressing "r" while booting and running from that original program CD,... such ) that also totally spoils the computer,.. b-coz it makes the computer it was 12+ yrs ago,.. and hence 10s of other installed programs then does not work,.. and you need to re-install one by one all over,… which is even worse than the total brand-new formatting,….. as your computer still will remain running heavy,… while a brand new format,…. ( from scratch ) will make it lighter and smooth running again,…

But nonetheless I will have to check with longer/extended tests and make sure that the all sectors and bytes are good and has not gone wrong the magnetic media,…. ( though this drive is nearly less used and was sent by Seagate ( may be it’s refurbished one by Seagate ), when my old drive had gone bad,….

Imho, Advanced Systen Care is a nasty piece of work! In fact I wouldn't have anything to do with Iobit software, period.

You should remove it all and, while you're about it, get rid of the Norton thing too.

For malware protection in XP, I would use something like Avast or Avira.

First of all we are talking about Windows XP here which should not even be on the Internet anymore and if we try to help[ you stay on we are doing you an injustice IMHO, as it has no protection at all and is a massive target, but none of those Antivirus will work with it anymore anyway.

That’s a good idea to remove all cleaning softwares like Iobits, ASC, Super antispyware and even spybot S and D…. I will do it soon,…

To night, I will do extended test by Seagate Tools ( and also by Windlg data tools ) and let see that the HDD sectors are not bad, first,…

Here is what I did,..

Ran windows,…….

Opened cmd / dos prompt,… did chkdsk,….. ordered chkdsk /f and chkdsk /r and rebooted,..

It did detailed chkdsk /r at re-booting and took 1.5+ hours and did a good job,…

Later, I also ran,.. from dos prompt,… SFC / scannow, which took 45+ minutes and it did good job,…. Computer works lighter ( quick responses ) now for 1-3 hours now and then I guess, again it will do the same,.. ,….
Will take lots of time for any operation,……. Even moving the mouse, highlighting something and selecting copy, by right clicking anything , takes 10+ seconds,…

I guess, WIN XP’s new updates are not offered by windows/MSFT, but old whatever is there on update.microsoft.com web sites, it lets you do upgrade those,…. Also ASC, and all cleaning software mentioned have still provision to work with Windows XP, even the brand new latest NAV installed has its installation allowed for windows XP,…

Though, the bad part is,… adobe flash player, VLC player, Java, Google chrome and Mozilla and IE won’t allow you to upgrade for any higher version,… and you are now 4-5 versions behind than the latest they offer,…

I am going to discard / obsolete this computer in next 4-5 months anyway, as am planning to buy the new one Dells latest and greatest, i7, 8920 model XPS CPU,..

Super antispyware and spybot S and D were ok last time I looked.

Iobit software? No.

The Intel Processor you have is a Pentium 4 @3.20GHz, but it is a single core processor. Most processors these days are Quad Core (ie) 8 Processors or more on one chip. So, your computer is never going to be able to keep up with modern computers processing speed, so everything is going to take a lot longer.
I still think your drive may have issues, even though Check Disk with the /R switch took 1 1/2 hours. Seatools should tell you.

Thank you all of the Folks, for your time, interest and cooperation,....

Did over-night long extended test and came out pass. ( nothing wrong it showed )

I agree, computer is 12+ yrs old, but somehow the other surroundings ( printers, scanners, Hauppage piece, ( watching TV on Dual monitors, speaker system, ) , I had added all fullest memories and a new video card and had tied with two big size dell monitors ) were, so working well and I was used to with those,… that I never thought of changing PC, nor it could update to Win 7.

The problem with cleaning softwares is,…

Many says Malwarebytes is good, however,… it only finds, advanced system care’s file s and super antispyware a s felony,. Rest anything it hardly finds wrong . Lol.
Also Malwarebytes has “ VERY Limited “ area of cleaning .

IoBit family comes with, I have a Pro version , 10.5 [ it covers following and all for FREE ]
Smart defrag
Startup optimization
Registry clean
registry defrag
privacy sweep
spyware removal
disk scan
junk file clean
internet boost
Vulnerability fix
Shortcut fix
System optimization
Disk Optimization.
IObit malware fighter,

Driver booster , which backs up all drivers, can be reloaded if disturbed, automatically finds updated drivers needed, with nil search or investigation,.. create and reinstate restore points, driver and restore points back up, fix - no sound error, network failure, device error, Bad resolution, Clean unplugged device data, system information and red tic errors auto fixing if any is there, organized programs removal in Uninstall Iobit icon,..

Action center keeping, everythg updated automatically like,..Adobe flash player NPAPI and Active X, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, JRE, VLC media player, Winrar, App/toolbar cleaner, Deep optimization, Hardware accelerate, Turbo boost, Realtime protection, Homepage protection, DNS protection, surfing protection and Ads removal, system reinforce,

^^ Now you can see,… How and Why I was using them and used to for last 9+ years,…. No wonder,, I removed rather that MalwareBytes, which was finding only this ASC guy as its main problem,…

But now I will have to think, as few others also suggested me, IObit as my main problem,..

_____________________________________________________________

The other problem is,…. CCleaner, works well cleans registry well,.. but NAV ( most latest edition ) finds CCleaner as virus and removes it,.. Lol.

One other problem is,… Windows own,… “ Defragment “ command,( under accessory and system tools ) does the defragment little differently than smart defrag program does,.. and both does not like each other’s defragment styles,. And finds the error in the work of each,.. Lol.

One other problem is,… few pages have continuously running scripts and no matter how many times you tell the dialogue box to stop it and never ask me,.. it can not be stopped,…. Those runs continuously and can’t be controlled,… “ Microsoft’s fix fight script program “ is also not controlling them any efficiently,..

After running computer and surfing for 0.5 hour any pages, some jam/choke/hard-crash occurs all pages freeze,.. and "exception breakpoint errors " are coming continuously ( when stopped the browser by clrt+alt+delete, it shows in a dialogue box ) ( for whatever reasons like older versions of browsers ) they can never be stopped,.. and have to clrl+alt+delete and close the browser,.. do little cleaning and start the browser all over,…. This happens as every 0.5 hour,…in my Mozilla browser for last 1.5+ years,…

Goggle chrome always plays any video clip with pauses of fraction of seconds never run smoothly any kind of video clip, movie, YT clip or nothing,… GC I hate a lot,.. 'coz unlike Mozilla you can never post any photo directly in the replying dialect box of any forum, by simply copy and paste directly in it,…

IE-8 browser, now in this WINXP system,… just does hardly work or opens any pages, as for most site snow this IE-8 Browser is too old,..

So ? It’s time to quit WinXP system,.. like it or not,.. Problems are many,..

Tonight will again do extended generic check with WDC’s famous software called WinDlg - Western Digital Data lifeguard Diagnostics – DLGDIAG for windows ( free for use on their web sites by WDC HDD drives )

Thank you all for help...

Sorry to say neither Mbam or Superantispyware is not equipped to handle an OS so long out of proper support and it is a miracle it runs at all. Reg Cleaners and optimizers will only further denigrate your registry and then the system and again this is "Guinness Book of Records" material the system runs at all and defies all logic as far as I am concerned so your realization to move on is highly agreed with here!

Since you have a Seagate 1TB drive, Seatools will give you the best diagnostic for the drive. Since it is not a WD drive running WD's DataLifeGuard will not help.
As stated, running IOBit Registry Cleaner will cause more problems then it will help. NAV, IOBit, Windows and Defraggler all have conflicting Defrag programs, this may cause problems. Also, IOBit conflicts with CCleaner. And of course, don't use CCleaners Registry Cleaner.
Here is an explanation of your OP question: CHKDSK deleting index entry in $I30 file, Is your data safe?
I applaud your tenacity to stick with a 12 year old computer running XP, but at some point, you may have to throw in the towel and move into the 21st century.

No, that's not true,... all cleaners still mention winXP and also says specifically that it will operate with that,.. they do too,.. and is working fine,... Only, adobe flash, VLC player, Java, Mozilla, IE, Google chrome and such versions do not allow you to any further update to a higher version,.. and hence you are lacking many pages do not open properly,.. many vdos do not play, netflix and few YT clips do not play saying your version is older,...... and such,...

I agree with you, what you have said,... but it's only this HDD,.. I have other 8-9 other OS systems on other HDD ( which works with same computer ) and those have lesser load on it,... used less ( so not that many junk files built up on it yet,.. ) ,..... so runs fast and fine,...

Yess i am pretty familiar with seagate tools,.. used it,.... all tests passed,..
WinDLg tests also can work for any make of drives,.. it does not reject third party drives,..

I sure will remove IoBits family and other all unnecessary cleaning programs,...

Again,.. thank you all folks, for your time, interest and cooperation,... Thx all, again,...

You need to run "F" or "R" to repair the issues found but once again finding things like this is only further evidence you also need a new hard drive and probably have for quite a while.

Never said "they won't operate with XP", what I said was they will be somewhat ineffective. You do realize that 3 years out of support from Microsoft means the primary front against Malware is not 3rd party products but rather Windows Updates.
