I wanted to compress my c drive to free up harddrive space. It errored and says hal.dll is not loaded on drive. Now I just get this message when starting over and that is far as it goes. Your help as to what to do if anything besides a fresh operating system install will be greatly appreciated.

HDD's are less expensive these days, there is no need to Compress your C: drive. Usually it causes more problems as you have found out.
Do you have an XP CD? You will need this to repair.
