Hello: I need help. I was using Kazaa to dl about 20 files. I tried to shut down Kazaa but there was a hang so I shut off the pc. When I restarted I got the BSOD. I made the mistake of doing a reinstall thinking all my VERY IMPORTANT FILES would be spared but they weren't. I am heartbroken and have become determined to retreive my files no matter what the cost. Can anyone tell me how to go about finding a program or company to retrieve my files? Please. I am desperate!

Hi, like the tech above mentioned p2p is not the way, I never use them that is why i get less infections. We all learn from mistaked, don't worry.
You can get you data back, this depends on also the file system i take it you have NTFS, you would have set this up when you were installing windows xp. Where is gives you the option format with NTFS or format with NTFS quick etc.

There is a couple of free and paid version software you can use to see how it goes.

free
http://www.recuva.com
http://download.pcinspector.de/pci_filerecovery.exe

paid
http://www.recovermyfiles.com/
http://www.elcomsoft.com/aefsdr.html
http://www.easeus.com/

Try with free first scan, and recover what it can find. If you have recovered most then you are done. If you still have things missing try pro, it should give a trial version that will show what it can recover.
Free or pro it depends on if data has been overwritten, you can recover about 60% with free pro probs 75% my estimate by the way....
