Hi everyone.,

I was getting the annoying "missing bootmgr" message for a while and decided to re-install Windows XP. So everything was going ok, it formatted the HD, copied files during the "setup blue screen", rebooted and continued with the installation in the "nicer looking setup screen".

During this, power went off in my house. I thought that would be just a matter of starting the install from scratch, but after the initial message of "setup is examining your hardware configuration" the screen goes black and nothing happens. I thought it would take a while but nothing, no activity on the HD or the CD drive.

What happened? What can I do to normally install Windows again?

Thanks!

The power outage might have destroyed your HDD. Boot into Setup (Bios) on the Main page do you see your HDD listed? If not, then the HDD has failed. Or there may be other hardware problem.
If your HDD is listed, during the XP install, do you get to the Partition information page? If so, then Delete the existing partitions, Create a new partition, Format the partition NTFS and install Windows.

Hello. Thanks for your response. It seems the blank screen issue was solved.

Fortunately, the HDD's were detected in the BIOS. The one thing I did differently this time was to select "Load optimized defaults", saved the BIOS and restarted and this time the setup went ok. Can't really tell which was the specific solution for this :/
