This is a discussion on Auto Restart! Help Please! within the Windows XP Support forums, part of the Tech Support Forum category. I have an issue that I;ve never had before. I been dealing with it for a while now/.
1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System (Windows+Pause works, too)
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"
Now when the problems occurs the system will produce an error message instead of restarting. This will give us some detail as to what is happening.
HMM I did what was said in the previous post, but now every now and then its doing this memory dump. I tried clearing my ram with stuff from the internet, but its notseeming to solve anything. should I go and buy new ram??
When the memory dump occurs? You should have some technical info with it (filename, stop code, etc). This is the info that is needed to determine the problem. Maybe you could upload the mini dump file from event viewer.
Here are to programs that you can use in order to test your memory to see if there is a problem with your memory.
