Help! Unable to open any files or folders on Desktop!!!
Someone plz help me...
Yesterday, while I was running a program called "BeClean" on my computer... It froze when it got to cleanning the section of "ActiveX Control..." I thought, what the hell, sooo I ctrl+alt+del... Where I ended it's process.. As soon as I ended "BeClean", I wasn't able to double click on any of my files and folders whatsoever!?!?.... Than, I rebotted my computer, and it became worst... The loading time for the Start Bar Menu as well as icons on the desktop loaded very slow (while background still remained there..) Later (when the icon and folders; as well as toolbars showed up), I wasn't able to open anything by double clicking~... I am unable to enter "My Computer, nor Control Panel".. I have checked that all my movies, games and documents still remained in the computer using the Dos Menu.... Someone plz tell me how I can fix this... Replies are greatly appreciated~ |

Xceltron: It really would be helpful if you kept it all in one thread and told us all your symptoms.
I see you have more than one thread as well as asking for help in someone elses thread. THis makes it very hard to follow. http://www.techsupportforum.com/wind...ard-error.html Quote:

Let me start with analysis of this error. http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.php Quote:
If you are getting this error when trying to reinstall from your XP cd, then it sounds like you have a loose damaged or incorrect cable to either your cdrom or hard drive. I suggest replacing them both with quality 80 wire 40 pin IDE cables. It can also be caused by incorrect configuration if you have RAID or SATA drives. Finally you may want to try with just one stick of RAM installed. If you have more than one now; you should try each in the slot nearest the processor all by itself until you rule out one of them being bad (If it works with one stick and not the other, you know the other is bad). There is more information on possible causes of this error at ahuma ; but my first suspicion on seeing the image checksum mismatch is that the file in question has been replaced with something else, a trojan or virus. By removing the registry cleaner and active-x section. SO I guess you got an older version which is not compatible with XP and removed sections of the registry which are needed to function. The first thing to try to do is to tap F8 once a second on boot up and see if last known good is an option. Try booting to that. If that does not help, try F8 again and boot to safe mode. Login with user name Administrator (leave password empty if you never protected this account) and if you get there try to go to start/ programs/ accessories/ system tools/ system restore. Choose a restore date just before you let beclean mess things up. If none of that helps, you will probably have to boot to your XP cd and do a repair install to fix XP. http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
