ntdll unknown hard error, can't start up computer
hey I have a mediocre system on Windows XP home edition SP1 and yesterday I ran into a problem. I wasn't doing anything special, I was downloading some stuff off IRC and a p2p, and I tried to start up internet explorer and the whole system crashed. When I tried to boot up the computer again, the computer went through its regular bios, but then during its load up of xp a blue screen appeared with the following error message:
Stop: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll I continue to recieve the same message on every attempt I have made to boot up my computer, including safe mode. Any Ideas? |

once you download
copy to a floppy i believe you can attempt to boot into dos mode or command line mode and then type cd\ then type: copy A:\filename.dll X:\%systemroot%\System32 A is usually the dir. for your floppy drive filename.dll means the dll in question X:\ is meaning your hard drive you installed to %SystemRoot% means the folder in which you installed windows to [by default it is X:\Windows] then type exit [or you can hit ctrl alt del] remove floppy and restart hope this helps |

Thanks for the help, but command prompt + safe mode doesn't bypass the error screen, so it won't boot up. And unlike previous versions of the OS, xp doesn't have any actual DOS. Thinking again, I could try to make a seperate DOS boot up disk, or I guess I could attempt to use the xp disk recovery console as a command prompt, but my cd has gotten really scratched up. Any other ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

can you boot from the CD?
or what you could do which is a nifty trick i used a long tim ago. [****DISCLAIMER****] [by far no disrespect to the linux community at all!] i downloaded a linux distro SuSE 9.1 it was and i popped it in and used it to format and partition my drive then i restarted inserted my Windows OS and began anew. [SIDE NOTE: i did use SuSE 9.1 for a while after that! back when i had a Win\Lin dual boot] |

Ah ****, I finally managed to get the .dll onto my computer, and just when I thought it was over, another shiny blue screen mocks me.
________________________________________________________________ A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. SESSION5_INITIALIZATION_FAILED If this is the first time you've see the Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical information: *** STOP: 0x00000071 (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) _________________________________________________________________ happy days. Safe mode gets the same message. I'm going to run a Chkdsk /r overnight, I tried everything it suggested, granted that I can't get into windows, and I have no new hardware or software. I was so close, but now i get this. Can anyone help? Thanks for the feedback I've gotten so far. |
