Hijack this log (IE URL Address bar not working)
Hi I've posted in my other thread about my Internet Explorer 6.0 address bar...it doesn't go to a site when I type it in there and press enter or hit "go" anymore...however I can still go to pages and browse like normal...I have google as my homepage and If I search from there I can still go on the net etc. Also whenever I type something in the URL bar and hit enter, and I open the "task manager" there is verclsid.exethat is in the processes...one for everytime I try to go to a site.
I ran Adaware, Spybot, CW Shredder, did some online scans and not very many things popped up...only one adware and infected file but they were fixed...the problem is still happening with the address bar not working though.. I have ran HijackThis and here is the log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 2:26:30 PM, on 4/13/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe c:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXPPS.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\jusched.exe C:\windows\system\hpsysdrv.exe C:\HP\KBD\KBD.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\VTTimer.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\WINDOWS\AGRSMMSG.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnd.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE C:\Program Files\Lexmark X6100 Series\lxbfbmgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\atiptaxx.exe C:\Program Files\Lexmark X6100 Series\lxbfbmon.exe C:\PROGRA~1\HEWLET~1\HPSHAR~1\hpgs2wnf.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\verclsid.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\verclsid.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Desktop\HijackThis.exe R1 - Thank you sir!
Just a little bit more info...I dunno if it matters but....while I ran spybot...it did detect registry changes with "Wild Tangent" and "Windows Security System: FirewallDisableNotify" and "Windows Security System: AntivirusDisableNotify" I set it so it would fix these changes and I am guessing it did... |

Mam if you don't mind lol
While Spybot et al are good tools can I ask you not run anymore unless asked to so. thanks Also could you check you don't have msconfig enabled as this may prevent us seeing everything. Go to Start>Run type msconfig and press Enter. Select Normal Startup - Load all Device Drivers and Services Reboot and post a new log. |

Hi scottv
That's no problem, the sticky is designed to remove a lot prior to you posting a log. Once you post a log it can take a while to analyse it and the fix we then prescribe won't be accurate if you continue to run removal tools. This wastes time on both our parts. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you while carrying out the following instructions Your installed Firewall has disabled Windows XP Firewall, which is normal. Spybot detecting this entry...HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\FirewallDisableNotify!=dword:0 is fine. Set it up to ignore the entry as it's an issue with Spybot and the entry is correct. In order to do so please right click the entry to expand the find, then click on the sub-find, then right click... ’exclude this detection from further searches'. That way, should any other part of security center settings change, Spybot will still detect those. Please see this link ( http://www.spybot.info/en/faq/46.html) at Safer Networking, Spybot's home, regarding these finds. Your Java is outdated please follow these steps to update it
verclsid.exe is a legit Microsoft process included in the latest Security Update There have been reports that HP Share to Web and verclsid.exe have been causing conflicts. Microsoft are working on an update at this time. If you have further problems then you could
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and select Show hidden files and folders. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types. Click OK. Reboot your system in Safe Mode (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears). Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entry O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked. Delete the following File indicated in RED if it still exists. ALCXMNTR.EXE <<<< find via start > search Reboot your system in Normal Mode. Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan Click on the "Free To Use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan Paste the Panda Scan report here together with a new HiJack This log. |

Just another small detail. When I type a site into the URL bar...it doesn't go and the "verclsid.exe" pops up for when I do that....If I end that particular "verclsid.exe" process....it WILL go to the site that I have typed in....

Hi there scottv
No probs I hope you had a nice weekend Yeah as I explained verclsid is conflicting with your HP Share to Web. Either disable Share to Web or uninstall the latest Windows Security Update(908531). Microsoft are working on a fix for this conflict. Please print this page or copy it to Notepad in order to assist you while carrying out the following instructions. Please download Cleanup! or use this (Alternate Link) if the main link does not work and install it. You will use this later. Download fl.zip Extract the contents to a new folder on Desktop. Within the folder, locate & double-click fl.bat. It should produce a report at c:\findlop.txt. Post the contents of the report in your next reply. Open HijackThis and click Open the Misc Tools section, under System Tools click Open uninstall manager... and click Save list. Save it to HijackThis directory and post the entire contents of uninstall_list.txt here. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel. Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button. There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 Checked
Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE. Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel. Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders in BLUE(If they still exist) C:\WINDOWS\ounist.exe C:\WINDOWS\pludll.exe C:\WINDOWS\webdir.dll C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\curb second platform army Empty the contents of the following Folders(Do not delete the folder) C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Cookies C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Local Settings\Temp Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from Start > All Programs). Set the program up as follows: Click Options Move the slider button down to Custom CleanUp! Check the following:
Click OK, Press the CleanUp! button to start the program and reboot when prompted. Reboot to Normal Mode Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Kaspersky WebScanner Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan Required Logs findlop.txt uninstall_list.txt Kaspersky report new HijackThis log How is your Internet Explorer behaving now?? |

Okay, I couldnt find where to disable HP SharetoWeb so I just uninstalled it from add/remove programs and the Internet Explorer URL bar works again!
HOWEVER, My MSNMessenger seems to have the error window pop up and it closes now after a few minutes...I dunno if it's related to me doing this but I just noticed it...did the restart and same thing... Anyways, I then went and did what you said on the list next.... Here are the logs... findlop.txt Volume in drive C is PRESARIO Volume Serial Number is 442D-936F Directory of C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data 08/10/2004 10:28 AM <DIR> Apple Computer 08/10/2004 08:39 AM <DIR> Identities 08/10/2004 10:05 AM <DIR> Real 08/10/2004 11:16 AM <DIR> SampleView 08/10/2004 09:09 AM <DIR> Sun 08/11/2004 08:55 AM <DIR> Symantec 0 File(s) 0 bytes 6 Dir(s) 129,466,433,536 bytes free Volume in drive C is PRESARIO Volume Serial Number is 442D-936F Directory of C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data 03/31/2005 03:28 PM <DIR> Adobe 11/01/2004 10:58 AM <DIR> AOL 12/27/2004 03:29 PM <DIR> BVRP Software 06/17/2005 10:18 AM <DIR> curb second platform army 08/10/2004 10:53 AM <DIR> Motive 11/03/2004 09:41 AM <DIR> QuickTime 08/10/2004 08:47 AM <DIR> SBSI 04/13/2006 01:22 PM <DIR> Spybot - OK scottv
I'm sorry to be nuisance but there's a fix for the HP Share to Web - verclsid.exe conflict now. If you would like to re-install it then do the following in order to add HP Share to Web to a "white list" so that verclsid.exe doesn't scan it:
Run MSN setup and choose Repair install. Does this help??? Delete the following Folder(If it still exists) C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\curb second platform army Please use Symantec's guide to remove the Norton Quarantine files. If all goes according to instruction, and you have no further issues then you should be good to go. Kindly follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Update all these programs regularly. Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released. Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically. Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein After doing all these, your system will be optimised against future threats. It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks if everything is working okay. Have a safe & happy computing day. ![]() Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved. |
