Looking for help with a general clean-up.
I've been browsing some of the spyware forums, and doing some checking on my computer. I've found some issues (no high risks that i can tell), that i'd like some help cleaning up. I'll start with a HJT log. My maine concern comes from the silentrunners log, which i'll post after the HJT. I have most of the other scanners, so if you need any other logs let me know.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions. Read through the directions before beginning so you know what you will be doing; ask any questions you may have before beginning.
Click Start->Run->Then Type "regedit" Click File->Export and save a copy of your registry somewhere just in case Then navigate to this entry: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\ Right-click on it and select Modify. Delete everything After "autocheck autochk *". Then click Ok. Delete the following folders if they still exist: C:\PROGRAM FILES\MYWEBSEARCH C:\Program Files\FunWebProducts If either folder gives you trouble deleting boot into Safe mode using F8 during startup and delte them from there. Please submit the following file to Jotti File Scan C:\PROGRAM FILES\MSN MESSENGER\RICHED20.DLL This will produce a report after the scan is complete, please copy and paste those results in your next post along with a new Hijackthis log. |

I have attached a file called sbrig.zip, please download it to your desktop and unzip it. Double click on sbrig.reg and click Yes when prompted to merge it into your registry.
The file not existing is not a problem, the scan was to determin if it was infected or not and if it is not there then we don't have to worry. |

So you did not see a prompt to merge the info into the registry?
Is this a work computer? Or are there multiple accounts on this computer? Download: StartDreck Unzip to its own folder and start the program: Press Config Press Unmark All Check the File Associations (CR) box only: Press Ok Press Save and select the location to save the log file (default is the same folder as the application) Post the log in this thread. |

No, there was no prompt. It is a work PC, purchaced by us from dell, as an upgrade from the computers the company provided for us. I am the only working account, the other is ADMIN, but my profile is set to be an ADMIN.

File associations look okay, we'll take a look and see if there is anything around that might be protecting that key.
Have you had any symptoms other than the suspicious Silent Runners log? Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop: Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked, click > scan then > next You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers). Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe" Online Scans Please open IE and go to Kaspersky WebScanner Next Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan |

I haven't really noticed anything out of the ordinary, everything seams to be running ok.
The Blacklight scan didn't find anything. Doesn't look like there should be anything protecting that key so we'll try a slightly different version of the fix.
Please copy everything from the box below into Notepad (please remove the space between the "o" and "l" of the word "Control"). Click File>Save As. Change "Save as Type" to "All files" and save it to your desktop as Bootexecute.reg Quote:
Then run a new silent runners scan and post the log here. Last edited by Vikesrock8411; 04-15-2006 at 06:03 PM. |

What happens if you do the following:
Click Start->Run->Then Type "regedit" Click File->Export and save a copy of your registry somewhere just in case Then navigate to this entry: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\ Double click on "BootExecute" in the right hand pane. If a box pops up delete everything under "Value Data" after "autocheck autochk *" |

Excellent work, looks like you got it.
Your log appears to be clean. If you still have any problems let me know and we will work on diagnosing those through other means. If not, there are just a few more things to go through to finish this off and help prevent future infections. Please post one more time even if you have no problems so we can mark this thread as resolved. Setting a new Restore Point Go to Start >> Run - type control sysdm.cpl,,4 & press Enter.
Windows Update Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at Microsoft Update Site. Prevention A good virus scanner is a necessity in today's computer environment. Many virus scanners include active components that protect you from infection without even running a scan. Some good free antivirus programs include: AVG Free Avast! Home Edition (Antivirus & Firewall) AntiVir A firewall is the first line of defense standing between the internet and your computer. Some good free firewalls are: Zone Alarm Outpost Tiny Personal Firewall Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall Adaware SE and Spybot SD are a pair of anti-spyware scanners that should be run every week or two. Although there is some overlap there are many pieces of malware that is caught by one of these and not the other, therefore it is recommended you use both to compliment each other. Spybot also contains two other useful pieces. The first is "Immunize", this helps protect your computer against known exploits. The second is "TeaTimer", with this feature enabled you will receive notifications of all changes to the registry such as programs adding themselves to start-up and you default search page being changed. Spyware Blaster is a powerful tool that prevents "drive-by" downloads and other unwanted installations. It also uses no system resources, run it once and you're all set. Spyware Guard Is a realtime protection engine to guard your computer from spyware. This program does for spyware what an antivirus program does for viruses. IE-Spyad is a program that only needs to be run once to protect you from many malicious sites. It adds domains of known adware companies into the Restricted List of Internet Explorer, preventing them from performing malicious actions on your PC. The MVPS HOSTS file is a file you can download and use to replace your regular hosts file. It prevents many sites from performing malicious actions by blocking the sites from ever being accessed. Together these programs form a powerful barrier between the Internet and your computer. However, all the programs stand alone and feel free to eliminate any you are not comfortable with. Any protection you add to your PC is better than no protection at all. Alternative Programs Here are some alternatives that are either less suceptible than others to malware or don't contain malware where similar programs do. Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN) Desktop Weather - Free taskbar weather program that is free, malware free, and resource light. Firefox - This is an increasingly popular alternate browser. Whilst Internet Explorer is not a bad browser, almost every exploit crafted is targeted to take advantage of an IE weakness. Sun's Java - It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine. |

Everything seams to be ok now. There is one other thing. I have been haveing trouble getting videos, and music to play that require a flash player. Such as videos from fofish.com. I don't know if i changed some setting in my computer, or if my flash player isn't working right. Can you help, or should i post a new thread.

Let's see if we can't get to the bottom of that issue. The instructions below have you remove all ActiveX controls from your system. Any sites that use these controls will ask you to redownload them the next time you visit them.
Is this problem occuring in IE, or do you use an alternate browser? HijackThis! Open Hijack This and click on Scan.
