Dialer-269 - Hijack this log
Hello, I'm having trouble getting rid of some very annoying pop ups. I'm running Windows Xp, mcafee Firewall plus and MS spyware software, however, nothing seems able to root out the problem. I have regular pop ups re. PUP's and TROJANS which can usually be removed, however, one re-appears, dialer-269, regardless of what I do. Mcafee says the program is write protected and cant be removed. I have read through others posts and have tried all I can think of without success. At present all of the scans with Spyware software/Mcafee show no viruses etc. Ive downloaed Hijack this, however havent got a clue what I should be looking for. Please help.

Does McAfee mention a file name with the alert? Are there any other symptoms you can tell us about? Web re-directs? Programs telling you to install them?
I see you have Ewido, did it remove anything, and did you save a log? I see nothing in your log, but I have a hunch...please run this online scan to see if anything is lurking: Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan Click on the "Free To Use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner

Hello, Thanks for your reply . I have used Ewido and it found a few things which I deleted. It was mostly tracking cookies except :-
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dfrgsrv.exe Trojan.small C:\WINDOWS\system32\dD82B.tmp Downloader.Zlob.kc Removal of these seems to have helped as Mcafee no longer pops up with the PUP's and Trojans, however, there's still something amiss as my Microsoft spyware keeps popping stating that web pages are being added to my trusted site index. The web pages it tries to add are always different with random names. As advised Ive attached thePandaScan, if you can help. Many thanks in anticipation :- Adware:adware/securityerror Not disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ot.ico Adware:adware/emediacodec Not disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\1024\ld73DB.tmp Spyware:Cookie/Advertising Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Cookies\liam@advertising[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/Apmebf Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Cookies\liam@apmebf[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/FastClick Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Cookies\liam@fastclick[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/Mediaplex Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Cookies\liam@mediaplex[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/QkSrv Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Cookies\liam@qksrv[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/Tribalfusion Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Cookies\liam@tribalfusion[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/Advertising Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Cookies\liam@advertising[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/Apmebf Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Cookies\liam@apmebf[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/FastClick Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Cookies\liam@fastclick[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/Mediaplex Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Cookies\liam@mediaplex[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/QkSrv Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Cookies\liam@qksrv[1].txt Spyware:Cookie/Tribalfusion Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Cookies\liam@tribalfusion[1].txt Potentially unwanted tool:Application/Processor Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Liam\Desktop\smitRem.exe[Process.exe] Virus:Trj/LowZones.RC Disinfected C:\WINDOWS\system32\1024\ld73DB.tmp |

That certainly confirms my hunch.....Ewido may not find anything this pass, but please run through this fix in it's entirety.
Before begining the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. Clear your IE cookies. Start>Settings>Control Panel>Internet Options>General tab>under Temporary files, click on Delete Cookies. * * * * * * ADDITIONAL DOWNLOADS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Download the file attached to this post. - sffix.zip Double click on the file within & follow the prompts given Download & install - CleanUp.exe (not recommended for WinXP64) Download & extract it to it's own folder - smitRem.exe I see you have Ewido already. Please update it's definitions, and run a scan where I have placed it in this fix. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido. 'UNPLUG'/DISCONNECT your computer from the Internet when you have finished downlaoding. It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence. * * * * * * RESTART WINDOWS IN SAFE MODE * * * * * * * * * * 1. Restart your computer 2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8. 3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear 4. Select the option to run Windows in Safe Mode. * * * * * * PURGING TEMP FOLDERS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Run Cleanup! using the following configuration: 1. Click Options... 2. Set the slider initially to Standard CleanUp! 3. Uncheck the following:
5. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. 6. Do NOT reboot/logoff if prompted. * CleanUp! will not create any backups!! * * * * * * RUNNING ADDITIONAL SCANNERS * * * * * * * * * * * Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply. * * * * Next go to Control Panel click Display>Desktop>Customize Desktop>Web> Now, Uncheck Everything and delete if present:
* * * * * Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
** Ewido scan would require at least an hour. I suggest that you go grab a cup of coffee & do something else while you wait for it to complete. * * * * * * REBOOT TO NORMAL MODE * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
--------------------------------------------------- * * * * * * CHECK LIST * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * In your next post, please include fresh copies of:

Well done. Your logs are clean. Any more issues? If not you should be good to go. We still have a few items to address.
Create a new System Restore point
Please ensure that you have already patched your system against the recent WMF exploit. Go to this page to get the KB912919 patch. Enable Windows Auto Update
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
If you do not have a firewall, here are 4 free ones available for personal use: In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles If you want to fight back the Malware Writers that have made your life a misery, please take a look here and read what you can do against it. Hello, Thanks for your help, however my computer is running very slow and I'm still having problems with some program trying to add random websites to my trusted sites on internet explorer. Havn't had any pop ups for while though.
I see the Kapersky scan shows I still have a virus - could that be the problem? |

The Kaspersky scan hit is in System Restore, which will have been removed if you've followed the instructions in my last post.

Slow computer when? Boot time? Web page loading? Running Program?
