Cry qoolaid driving me crazy!

Okay, this is my first post, so be patient with me. I hope I'm doing it right.
I downloaded qoolaid onto my PC yesterday through a supposed ActiveX control. I've tried everything I know (which, granted, isn't that much) to get rid of it, but no luck Helpppp please! The files that I know for sure are associated are C:\WINDOWS\system32\smdhk.exe & C:\WINDOWS\system32\cdmdkv.exe. Thanks for any help you can give!

Hello and welcome to TSF

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

This fix is quite involved and will require patience. Please bear with me whilst we disinfect your system.

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and select Show hidden files and folders. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types. Click OK.

Please disable AdWatch, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.

To disable AdWatch:
  • Open AdAware SE.
  • Go to AdWatch User Interface.
  • Go to Tools and Preferences.
  • At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options Active and Automatic.
  • Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
  • Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically
  • Uncheck both options. You can enable these after resolving your problem.

Unless they are turned off they could interfere with the fix by HijackThis.

I notice that you already have ewido. Update ewido as follows:

From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start Update button.

After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

Close Ewido.

Reboot your system in Safe Mode (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears).

Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
  • Click Scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan to begin scanning.
  • Click OK when prompted to clean files
  • With the first file it prompts to clean, select the option: "Perform action on all infections"
  • Choose clean and click OK.
  • Once finished, click the Save report button & save the report to your desktop

** Ewido scan would require at least an hour.

Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TY... on&pf=desktop

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ kwintraf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ cabweb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ smdhk.exe
dikkubd. exe < - Via Start > Search > Find All Files and Folders
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ cdmdkv.exe

Reboot your system in Normal Mode.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan

Click on the "Free To Use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
  1. Click Check Now and a "pop up" window will appear. * Please ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it *
  2. Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click Scan Now * The download of the 8 MB Panda's ActiveX control will take place *
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  • Please ignore any entry it finds and the offer to buy the program to remove the entry, as we will address this later.
  • Click on See report then click Save report
* You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Download FindQool http://downloads.subratam.org/Lon/FindQool.zip

* Extract the files and place the FindQool folder in root. Usually C:\
* Open the folder and run Qlocate.bat.
* Post the contents of the txt.log which will open.

Download and run Blacklight

Note that you must have local administrative privileges to run the program.

Click Scan. BlackLight will use Windows Explorer (the desktop process) to scan for hidden items. Your anti-virus software or personal firewall might display a warning that says Blacklight (blbeta.exe) is trying to manipulate the Windows Explorer process (explorer.exe). If you want to continue the scan, you should allow BlackLight to do this

When it finishes, click Next. You may get a screen similar to the picture below. Click on Close

BlackLight beta would create a log file "fsbl-<date-and-time>.log". By default, the log file is in the same directory as the executable. Please post the log.

So I need:

ThePanda Scan report
A new HiJack This log
ewido's log
The FindQool log
The log from Blacklight.

Thanks.

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Unzip it and save it to your desktop.

Reboot into Safe Mode.

Delete the 'Click to Find and Fix Errors' shortcut from your Desktop.

Go into Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel and uninstall the following (if present):

WebNexus Network

Open Hijack This and run a scan. Fix the following entries:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe, C:\WINDOWS\system32\smdhk.exe
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Userinit.exe,dikkubd. exe

* Run Killbox.exe.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them then press CTRL + C

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DIKKUBD.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\IKLDBEO.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\HBBGV.DAT
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CDMDKV.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SMDHK.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\BYSJB.DLL

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

oh, by the way...I did fix these:
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe, C:\WINDOWS\system32\smdhk.exe
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Userinit.exe,dikkubd. exe

But they're still there. Were they supposed to go away?

Download the attached file - Hustler.rar
Extract/unzip the contents into a newly created folder
Double click on the Q-find.bat & it shall produce a logfile for you to post back here.

Reboot your machine & locate these files.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DIKKUBD.EXE.vir
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\IKLDBEO.DLL.vir
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\HBBGV.DAT.vir
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CDMDKV.EXE.vir
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SMDHK.EXE.vir
C:\WINDOWS\BYSJB.DL.vir

Zip them up & place the package as an attachment in your next post.

umm, I don't think that round went as planned. I did run the q-find.bat, the log of which is below. But none of the files you wanted zipped & attached were there anymore. I think (fingers crossed) that my anti-virus and anti-spyware kicked in and deleted them automatically...something they've SAID they've done before, but before, qoolaid always came right back. This time, I rebooted and triple-checked, but they're still not there. My new HJT log is also below. So, whatcha think?

Do you have samples of the deleted files in quarantine? Please attach them to the thread if you have.

  • Unless they are turned off they could interfere with the fix by HijackThis.

Please disable Webroot SpySweeper, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.
To disable Webroot SpySweeper:
  • Go to the Options>Program Options
  • Uncheck Load at Windows Startup
  • Click Shields & uncheck all items there
  • Uncheck Home page shield.

Please delete:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ d3d9caps.dat

OPen Hijack This and fix the following entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [buqukt] C:\WINDOWS\system32\cdmdkv.exe reg_run

Download Track qoo http://www.geekstogo.com/downloads/Trackqoo.zip
Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop. Unzip the Track qoo.vbs inside to your desktop. DO NOT run it yet!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with a Hijack This log.

Haven't found then in quarantine, either. I'll check again, though. Here are the logs you asked for:

Your log is clean and your system is now free of Qoologic.
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option.
  • Select the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Select the Hide protected operating system files option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

To turn off System Restore click Start > Right Click My Computer > Properties. Click the System Restore tab and Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" Click Apply. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this then Click OK.

Turn on System Restore by Clicking Start. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. Uncheck "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives." Click Apply, and then OK.

This will create a new Restore Point.

It is very important that you get all of the critical updates for your Operating System and Internet Explorer. Keeping your OS and browser up to date will help make you less susceptible to attacks by Trojans and viruses. Please go to Microsoft and download all the critical updates to help prevent possible re-infection.

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read TonyKlein's How Did I Get Infected In The First Place?. You need an antivirus that is continually updated, a good firewall, a spyware blocker such as Spyware Blaster, and a real time spyware program such as Spyware Guard, to prevent spyware intrusions. IE-Spyad is another excellent program that places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list, which will help prevent attempts to infect your system. All of the above have good free versions available. However, be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them.

More information and downloads are available at the following links:

Spyware Blaster

Spyware Guard
IE-Spyad

You may also now re-enable Spy Sweeper and Ad-Watch.

Please respond once more to let me know how your system is performing now so that we can treat your thread as resolved.

Thanks.
