RIED - Please help
Hi Ried,
Starting on March 12, my friend (reality bytes) posted a thread for me under - Help with Alphacleaner/warnhp.html! I am a fairly new user and my friend doesn't always have time to help me so I am following up on the advice you previously gave. Everything seems to be fine with the Alphacleaner now. It took me a while to download the protection you advised and I had a problem updating my Java, but I have successfully completed it now. However, I have run into another problem. I am getting pop-ups from Winantvirus Pro 2006, Party Poker, Adult Friend Finder, and a Morgage Rate site. It seems to me that my pop-up blocker has stopped counting. The number has stopped at 2634. I have also noticed that there is a 020 - Winlogon Notify in my Hijack This scan. Could you please take a look and advise? Thank you Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 11:58:02 AM, on 01/04/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\IWP\NPFMntor.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\SAVScan.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliType Pro\type32.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\point32.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\Program Files\D-Link AirPlus\AirPlus.exe C:\Program Files\SpywareGuard\sgmain.exe C:\Program Files\SpywareGuard\sgbhp.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\Desktop\HijackThis.exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.cnn.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://g.msn.ca/0SEENCA/SAOS01 O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: DosSpecFolder Object - {3496D13A-609A-407B-B181-8F47B4F28AE9} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddccb.dll O2 - BHO: SpywareGuard Download Protection - {4A368E80-174F-4872-96B5-0B27DDD11DB2} - C:\Program Files\SpywareGuard\dlprotect.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\ssv.dll O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Helper - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar1.dll O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: MSN Toolbar - {BDAD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - C:\Program Files\MSN Toolbar\01.01.1721.0\en-ca\msntb.dll O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Translator - {FF284F5C-7CF9-4682-8701-D467C1DBB99F} - C:\Program Files\PRMT6\PRMTIE\prmtie.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar1.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [type32] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliType Pro\type32.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Jet Detection] "C:\Program Files\Creative\SBAudigy\PROGRAM\ADGJDet.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IntelliPoint] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\point32.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ccApp] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ccRegVfy] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccRegVfy.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinampAgent] C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BootSkin Startup Jobs] "C:\Program Files\Stardock\WinCustomize\BootSkin\BootSkin.exe" /StartupJobs O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background O4 - Startup: SpywareGuard.lnk = C:\Program Files\SpywareGuard\sgmain.exe O4 - Global Startup: D-Link AirPlus.lnk = ? Hope you don't mind me replying....
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download and install CleanUp! NOTE: Do NOT run this program if you have XP Professional 64 bit edition. If you're unsure please do not run it! Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows: Click "Options..." Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!" Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. It may ask you to log-off/reboot at the end, if it does please do so. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan Click on the "Free To Use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Create an uninstall list:
Please return with results from: VundoFix Panda HJT HJT Uninstall list

Download KillBox http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Right click and copy the below lines. Go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say Yes:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddaba.dll If you get a PendingOperations message, just close it and restart your computer manually. Go to your Add/Remove panel and try uninstalling that ccCommon entry.

I followed the instructions and re-booted my computer. I don't quite understand the ccCommon entry. Where do I find that entry in the Add/Remove panel?
This is my first time posting any threads and I apoligize if I posted something incorrectly. I'm not sure what you meant by Please do NOT PM me. I only posted my original thread to Ried because the original posting that was sent by my friend for me was answered by Ried. The original posting - Help with Alphacleaner/warnhp.html! can now be closed. Thank you for all your help. You guys are awesome!! |

That no PMs bit is only in his signature....don't worry, it's not directed at you specifically.
I only wanted to see your Add/Removes to see if you had installed the protections we offered earlier, and you have, but I don't see CleanUp. It's a very effective tool at cleaning out the junk left behind by daily internet use and infections. I use it almost every day. I do see one possible exploit though....you should uninstall Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_04, as it is a less secure version than the J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6 that you also have. Other than that, your logs appear clean to me. Well done. Any more issues? If not you should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Create a new System Restore point
Please ensure that you have already patched your system against the recent WMF exploit. Go to this page to get the KB912919 patch. Enable Windows Auto Update
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
If you do not have a firewall, here are 4 free ones available for personal use: In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles If you want to fight back the Malware Writers that have made your life a misery, please take a look here and read what you can do against it. Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.

I think I have done everything. I didn't download Avast or AVG, but I do have Winpatrol now. This is what I have now to help my computer, Winpatrol, SpywareGuard, Spyware Blaster, Microsoft Antispyware, Ad Aware, ie-spyad, clean-up, hijack this and maybe more.
I read some of the articles you have forwarded and it says that the firewall that comes with windows is not recommended and that's the one I'm using. Should I then download another firewall and turn off the one that I have? Which one do you think would be best? |

Hi cheeko -
Your protection level is pretty solid, you might want to install the MVPS hosts file I listed also. AS for the firewall, yes XP's is not very secure, and has no outbound monitoring. I use ZoneAlarm, and find it very effective and relatively painless to use. Upon install and initialization, it should turn off the Windows Firewall, so you shouldn't need to take care of that. Hope that helps. Happy Computing!

Hi Tetonbob,
I really appreciate everything. I forgot to mention that I did install the MVPS file that you recommended. I have one last question. I downloaded the ZoneAlarm Firewall and it keeps saying - Generic Host Process for Win32 Services was blocked for accepting a connection from the Internet. When I open up ZoneAlarm it has a red X under the heading Server - Internet. Is this setting correct? Should I be allowing this connection or is the Firewall just doing its job. I am very new at all this and I thank you for you patience. I have learned a lot from going through this process. Thanks again |

Hi cheeko -
If the first three cloumns have green checks, and the Server Internet has a red X, that should be how you want it set up, according to the ZA gurus. http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/b...ssage.id=24761 About Generic Host Process For Win32 Services , go to your Zone Alarm Program Control > Programs list and look for the application. The first 3 columns should have green checks next to Generic Host Process For Win32 Services. It's how mine is set up. Any other questions about ZA, you may be better off asking here in our Firewalls forum, as they are the real experts on this aspect of system security, or in ZA's support forum
