I have tried to get rid of numerous pop-ups but they keep coming back. Online scanners found Downloader-RK, Generic PUP.a, Adware-Mediatickets, and W32.Secdrop.JS. I would really appreciate any help provided.

Hello and Welcome. Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted.
Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
![]() --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download Ewido Security Suite
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it. The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. *NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! If you have a 64 bit Operating System do NOT run Cleanup and let me know as we will use another utility. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run Cleanup! using the following configuration: 1. Click Options... 2. Set the slider to Standard CleanUp! 3. Uncheck the following:
5. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted. * CleanUp! will not create any backups!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: webHancer ScreenScenes Aquatica Water Worlds (comes in with GAIN spyware) Gain/GATOR --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
** Ewido scan would require at least an hour. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://searchmiracle.com/sp.php O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVcheckin] C:\wsmstr32\avcheckin.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AQ3HelperStartUp] C:\PROGRA~1\AQUATI~1\AQ3HEL~1.EXE /partner AQ3 O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webHancer Survey Companion] "C:\Program Files\webHancer\Programs\whSurvey.exe" O4 - Startup: Z_Start.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\zitst001.exe O15 - Trusted Zone: *.media-motor.net O15 - Trusted Zone: *.popuppers.com O16 - DPF: {001EE746-A1F9-460E-80AD-269E088D6A01} (Infotl Control) - http://dev.egloballibrary.com:2090/s.../ebraryRdr.cab O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.imgfarm.com/images/nocache...tup1.0.0.8.cab O16 - DPF: {205FF73B-CA67-11D5-99DD-444553540013} (CInstall Class) - http://adserver.sharewareonline.com/...er/Install.cab O16 - DPF: {7149E79C-DC19-4C5E-A53C-A54DDF75EEE9} (IObjSafety.DemoCtl) - http://cabs.media-motor.net/cabs/joysaver.cab O16 - DPF: {88D758A3-D33B-45FD-91E3-67749B4057FA} - http://dm.screensavers.com/dm/instal...sinstaller.cab O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} (cpbrkpie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/14...3/cpbrkpie.cab --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab: * Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders. * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. * Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types * Click Yes to confirm and then click OK. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Delete the following if they exist: C:\wsmstr32\avcheckin.exe C:\Program Files\AQUATI~1 C:\Program Files\webHancer C:\WINDOWS\zitst001.exe --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Restart in normal mode. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Create an uninstall list:
Please return with logs from: Ewido Kaspersky HJT HJT uninstall list

Followed instructions. I did not delete the avcheckin.exe because that is a program I use from work. Here are the logs. You did not mention the BFU log but I did include it.

Can you share with me any info about the AVcheckin program, or is it confidential? There is nothing found on Google about it, which makes it suspicious to us analyst types.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I notice that your version of Spybot is out of date, the latest is 1.4 I'd advise you to get the latest, update it's defs, Immunize, and run a full system scan when you can. I can't tell from the program list, but Adaware's latest version is 1.06 Do the same for it, if it's not the latest version. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Delete the following if they exist: C:\WINDOWS\system32\RXBarsetupV2.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\RXToolbar.exe C:\WINDOWS\YazzleBundle-1119.exe If they resist deletion, boot to safe mode and delete them from there. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How is your system behaving now, please?

Avcheckin was written in-house by my manager to run when the computer boots to confirm that the virus protection is current, run departmental login scripts, map departmental shared drives, and poll the computer for all installed applications.
I uninstalled Spybot then installed, updated, and scanned with version 1.4. Adware was version 1.06. Spybot found Elitum.EliteBar, MediaMotor, Smitfraud-C., and Zeno but was able to remove. I was able to delete the listed files with no problems. I was repeatedly getting a pop-up prompting for proxy login but when I turned off the Kodak Updater that stopped. I have had no pop-up for about 1 day. Thank you for all your help. I have taken measures to prevent re-infection. |

Thanks for the info about AVcheckin. A clever idea.
I will leave you with this standard closing reply, some of the tools you may find unnecessary: Well done. Your logs are clean. Any more issues? If not you should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Reset hidden/system files and folders
Create a new System Restore point
Please ensure that you have already patched your system against the recent WMF exploit. Go to this page to get the KB912919 patch. Enable Windows Auto Update
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
If you do not have a firewall, here are 4 free ones available for personal use: In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles If you want to fight back the Malware Writers that have made your life a misery, please take a look here and read what you can do against it. Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
