Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running.
Download Ewido Security Suite
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido. The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it. *NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! If you have a 64 bit Operating System do NOT run Cleanup and let me know as we will use another utility. Run Cleanup! using the following configuration: 1. Click Options... 2. Set the slider to Standard CleanUp! 3. Uncheck the following:
5. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted. * CleanUp! will not create any backups!! Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
** Ewido scan would require at least an hour. Reboot in normal mode. Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan Click on the "Free To Use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
Run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here. Please return with logs from: Ewido Panda HJT IMPORTANT!: Before we can proceed any further, please visit the Microsoft's Windows Update Page and install ALL Critical Updates for your system (except service pack 2) (SP2). SP2 should only be installed on a fully disinfected system. At the minimum install at least SP1a for both XP and IE6. Without these updates your system is wide open to re-infection and we are both wasting our efforts to clean your system. After we have completed your clean-up, we will have you return to the Windows Update page and install SP2. We will also then advise you on how to better protect yourself online. Please apply those updates BEFORE posting your next log. It is this forum's policy to stop the disinfection process until these basic updates are done. If during the updating process you get a message that your product key is invalid ....then you may not have a legitimate copy of Windows XP. Unfortunately it’s also this forums policy that we only address users with a legal copy of Windows XP.... therefore if you can not update Windows XP to SP1 we must stop the cleansing process here. **Note** If your having trouble locating the service pack SP1a here is a direct link to download it from.. http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...p1a_en_x86.exe Thank you for your cooperation.

Thanks for your cooperation.
Hmmm, it's not showing, we'll have to dig deeper. Clear your IE cookies. Start>Settings>Control Panel>Internet Options>General tab>under Temporary files, click on Delete Cookies. Download IE-SpyAD - Extract the contents to a new folder From within the folder, double-click install.bat Select Option #2 - Install the new IE-SPYAD list. Then return to the main menu. Select option #4 - Add the old porn sites domain Download Host.zip - From within Host.zip, double click on MVPS.bat & allow it to run. Download SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: MyWay Raze --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab: * Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders. * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. * Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types * Click Yes to confirm and then click OK. Delete the following if they exist: C:\WINDOWS\rzs.exe C:\WINDOWS\adw.htm C:\WINDOWS\system32\intxt.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\mswinb32.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\mswinb32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\mswinup32.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\mswinxml.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlfl32.dll C:\WINDOWS\System32\porntrojan.exe --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reboot in normal mode I have attached a file to this post - regdel.zip Download this file to your desktop. Double click on the zip folder, then double click on the reg file within. Click yes to allow it to merge into your registry. Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
--------------------------------------------------- Right click on http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent%20Runners.vbs and choose Save As...Save it to your Desktop. Double click on 'Silent Runners' to run it. Choose 'No' at the prompt. It will create a file called 'Startup Programs' (followed by your computer name and current date) on your desktop. Do NOT open it yet. Wait until you get the prompt 'All Done'. Then open up that file and post all the contents here in your next post. If you receive a warning message about scripts, choose to allow it to run. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please return with logs from: Kaspersky SilentRunners

Grrrrrr....that didn't show me what I was looking for.
Quote:
Download StartDreck http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/StartDreck.zip Unzip to its own folder and start the program: Press 'Config' Press 'mark all' Uncheck the following boxes only: System/Running Process -> List Modules System/Drivers -> NT Services System/Drivers -> NT Kernel- and FS-drivers Press 'OK' Press 'Save' and select the location to save the log file (default is the same folder as the application) Post the log in this thread. * Download WinPFind http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/winpfind.php o Double click on WinPFind and unzip it to your Desktop. o Don't do anything with it yet! Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Double click WinPFind.exe * Click 'Start Scan' * It will scan the entire system, so please be patient! * Once the scan is complete: 1. Go to the WinPFind folder 2. Locate WinPFind.txt 3. Copy those results in the next post! Reboot back to Normal Mode! Post both logs.

The problem is no longer occuring!
I did find some controls on the MSN tool bar (help and settings > Settings > Home Page > Set Home Page) This is what had been corrupted - "hijacked". Thanks for all of your help. So much has been cleaned up and blocks put into place. The StartDreck log is too large for this site to accept. Maybe I checked/un checked the wrong boxes?? Here is the WinPFind WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding. If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly. »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» Windows OS and Versions »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» Product Name: Microsoft Windows XP Current Build: Service Pack 1 Current Build Number: 2600 Internet Explorer Version: 6.0.2800.1106 »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» Checking Selected Standard Folders »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» Checking %SystemDrive% folder... You can attach the StartDreck log to the post, at the bottom of the reply window is a Manage Attachments button, click on it, another window will open, then use the Browse button to navigate to whereever you saved it. It may not be necessary, but I might as well look at it.
I'd like some information on a couple of files found, please, even though your issue seems resolved to you. I want you to upload these files to http://virusscan.jotti.org and report back what it found. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Dwapilib.tlb C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\jesterss.dll
