Hi. I seem to have infected my pc, I wasnt paying attention and apparently opened an infected file and now I am getting popups all the time and I cant load my firewall (windows). I tried to get rid of as much as I can but I'm still getting popups, and they are very annoying.
EDIT: Also, my quicktask bar keeps disappearing when I restart... Here is my HJT log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 16:53:45, on 07/03/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\6495.tmp C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe C:\Program Files\ASUS\Probe\AsusProb.exe C:\Program Files\Netropa\Multimedia Keyboard\MMKeybd.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\Program Files\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\PCSuite\DataLayer\DataLayer.exe C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia PC Suite 6\LaunchApplication.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Gmail Notifier\gnotify.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime Alternative\qttask.exe C:\Program Files\Creative\MediaSource\Detector\CTDetect.exe C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia PC Suite 6\PcSync2.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Wtablet\TabUserW.exe C:\Program Files\Ovulation Calendar\OVUCAL.EXE C:\Program Files\Netropa\Multimedia Keyboard\TrayMon.exe C:\Program Files\Netropa\Onscreen Display\OSD.exe C:\Program Files\Netropa\Multimedia Keyboard\nhksrv.exe C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\Avsynmgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\CTsvcCDA.EXE C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\SMAgent.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\VsStat.exe C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\Vshwin32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Tablet.exe C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\Avconsol.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Network Associates\McShield\Mcshield.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\PCSuite\Services\SERVIC~1.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exe C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\notepad.exe C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe R1 - You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot. From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. It will process then start. Do NOT depress any keys on your keyboard until the tool requests you to "press any key to reboot" Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log. IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so! If after the reboot the log.txt does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder and post that log.

I want you to upload this file to http://virusscan.jotti.org and report back what it found:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\syst6l7.dll ---------------------------------------- Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running.
---------------------------------------- Download Ewido Security Suite
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido. The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it. *NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! If you have a 64 bit Operating System do NOT run Cleanup and let me know as we will use another utility. ---------------------------------------- Run Cleanup! using the following configuration: 1. Click Options... 2. Set the slider to Standard CleanUp! 3. Uncheck the following:
5. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted. * CleanUp! will not create any backups!! ---------------------------------------- Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. ---------------------------------------- Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
** Ewido scan would require at least an hour. ---------------------------------------- Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Shell] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00001.exe" O20 - Winlogon Notify: Mixer - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\sndmixex.dll O20 - Winlogon Notify: OptimalLayout - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hrjo0513e.dll (file missing) ---------------------------------------- Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab: * Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders. * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. * Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types * Click Yes to confirm and then click OK. ---------------------------------------- Delete the following Files/Folders if they exist: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00001.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ sndmixex.dll ---------------------------------------- Restart in normal mode. ---------------------------------------- Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
---------------------------------------- Run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here. ---------------------------------------- Please return with logs from: Ewido Kaspersky HJT

See this page for instructions on how to clear java's cache.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\syst6l7.dll ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab: * Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders. * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. * Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types * Click Yes to confirm and then click OK. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Delete the following Files/Folders if they exist: C:\WINDOWS\system32\syst6l7.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\win_84.exe ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run Cleanup! using the following configuration: 1. Click Options... 2. Set the slider to Standard CleanUp! 3. Uncheck the following:
5. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted. * CleanUp! will not create any backups!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Restart in normal mode. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- CLEAR & RESET SYSTEM RESTORE'S CACHE Go to Start >> Run - type or copy/paste control sysdm.cpl,,4 & press Enter * Tick on the checkbox - Turn off System Restore on all drives * Click Apply Turn it back 'On' by unticking the same checkbox & click Apply, and then OK ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan Click on the "Free To Use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run a new HijackThis scan. It hasnt come up in scans of HJT since though. The computer is running a lot better, the quick task bar stays on and the popups have stopped. Please report what McAfee is finding...file names and locations.
---------------------------------------------------- Please download these additional files/programs. Do not run them unless instructed to do so. ---------------------------------------------------- Download CWShredder and run it. Click on Update. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and then click OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit. smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop. Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop. *Note* Alternate download sites for smitrem... http://www.downloads.subratam.org/smitRem.exe http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/file...ar/smitRem.exe * Download WinPFind http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/winpfind.php o Double click on WinPFind and unzip it to your Desktop. o Don't do anything with it yet! I know you have Ewido already. Please update it's definitions, and run a scan where I have placed it in this fix. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido. ---------------------------------------------------- Run Cleanup! using the following configuration: 1. Click Options... 2. Set the slider to Standard CleanUp! 3. Uncheck the following:
5. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted. * CleanUp! will not create any backups!! ---------------------------------------------------- Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. ---------------------------------------------------- Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply. ---------------------------------------------------- Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
** Ewido scan would require at least an hour. ---------------------------------------------------- Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab: * Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders. * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. * Also make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types * Click Yes to confirm and then click OK. Delete the following Files/Folders if they exist: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dcom_14.dll C:\WINDOWS\country.exe C:\WINDOWS\uniq C:\WINDOWS\winsnde.ini ---------------------------------------------------- Double click WinPFind.exe * Click 'Start Scan' * It will scan the entire system, so please be patient! * Once the scan is complete, restart in normal mode: 1. Go to the WinPFind folder 2. Locate WinPFind.txt 3. Copy those results in the next post! ---------------------------------------------------- Please return with results from: Ewido WinPFind smitfiles.txt

My log doesn't seem to have them all in, if they come up again, I will write them down. I still can't get the firewall to work. My stepdad (who is a network admin) was doing something to windows firewall today at work and was using registry to files to do the same thing to other pcs, but it didnt work on mine. I will ask him again and see what he thinks too. |

You are logged on as an admin on this system, correct?
I want you to upload this file to http://virusscan.jotti.org and report back what it found. C:\Documents and Settings\Mookoo\order_pyux.exe

It is being referenced in [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] in the WinPind log...which is why I had you look....hmmmm....along with a couple other entries we never fixed but which aren't showing....

Is this HJT log from the same account as the original HJT log? How familiar are you with regedit? Navigate to this location, click once on the folder and tell me the value found in the right hand pane for this key, if it exists: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsFirewall Ignore the space in WindowsFirewall You are admin on this system, correct? Please take the time to answer each question as best you can.

They were all run from the same account and I am setup as an administrator on the pc, Im the only user (apart from admin). I only log in the administrators account if I really need to.
I kind of know how to use regedit but that folder isn't there. In the microsoft folder there is the following folders: Conferencing SystemCertificates Windows Windows NT I don't know if it will be any help, but this is what was in the .reg file my stepdad told me to install: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile] "EnableFirewall"=dword:00000001 "DoNotAllowExceptions"=dword:00000000 "DisableNotifications"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List] "%windir%\\system32\\sessmgr.exe"="%windir%\\system32\\sessmgr.exe:*:enabled:@xpsp2res.dll,-22019" "C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Network Associates\\On Demand Scanner\\Scan32\\scan32.exe"="C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Network Associates\\On Demand Scanner\\Scan32\\scan32.exe:*:Enabled:VirusScan" "C:\\Program Files\\Messenger\\msmsgs.exe"="C:\\Program Files\\Messenger\\msmsgs.exe:*:Enabled:Windows Messenger" "C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\iexplore.exe"="C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\iexplore.exe:*:Enabled:Internet Explorer" "C:\\Program Files\\Real\\RealPlayer\\realplay.exe"="C:\\Program Files\\Real\\RealPlayer\\realplay.exe:*:Enabled:RealPlayer" "C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Games\\Age of Empires\\EMPIRESX.EXE"="C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Games\\Age of Empires\\EMPIRESX.EXE:*:Enabled:Age of Empires, the Rise of Rome" "C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\dplaysvr.exe"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\dplaysvr.exe:*:Enabled:Microsoft DirectPlay Helper" "C:\\Program Files\\MSN Messenger\\msnmsgr.exe"="C:\\Program Files\\MSN Messenger\\msnmsgr.exe:*:Enabled:MSN Messenger 7.5" "C:\\Program Files\\Yahoo! That looks like a default reg rebuild...and still no Firewall?
In regedit, there are + signs next to the folders...you have to expand the Windows folder and then expand CurrentVersion to get all the way down to the key I'm looking for... In addition.....respond to this, please: Click Start > Run - type firewall.cpl <Press Enter> You may get a Windows message saying: Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service? If so, answer 'Yes'. ![]() Refering to the above picture, are the 'On' & 'Off' buttons on your machine grayed out?

![]() I just don't see it! :( I can't even get to the firewall options. I get this error when I try to open it: Due to an unidentifiable problem, windows cannot display windows firewall settings. |

Thanks for the pic...that's good work. Some malware create a firewall policy...you don't have that issue.
I'll have to do some more digging for the firewall issue you do have. I have some thoughts about it. First....go to Start>Run and type or copy/paste services.msc Then press Enter. Scroll down and look for Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). Is it present? If so, double click on it. Can you start the service? Another thought would be to get a third party firewall like ZoneAlarm (it's got a free version, and is better than XP's), but I'd like to try to solve this out.

That isn't there either!! I had a look at all the other things in services.msc that looked like they might be something to do with it (security settings) and they are all started and look fine.
Is there no way of reinstalling *just* the security center? I would have just reinstalled windows before but I have too much junk on my computer to lose! |
