HELP slow comp!!!

Lately my computer has been running EXTREMELY SLOW. I don't know what's causing the problem and i think it may be a virus or some sort of malware

also, i cannot open my windows firewall settings and cannot turn it off it gives me an error: "Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall Settings."

For IE i cannot put my internet security setting below medium

i have a process called vsmon.exe which says i cant close it

Also i try to go to a website and it says please enable cookies, but cookies are enabled.

Please download CleanUp! and install it. Do not run it yet!

Download LSPFix.exe

Instructions for using LSPFix

1. Double click on LSPFix.exe to run it.
2. Once running, you will be required to tick the disclaimer - "I know what I'm doing".
3. You'll find a windows with 2 columns. In the left column which is labeled 'Keep', click once to select the entry:
   • newdotnet6_38.dll (or anything with newdotnet***.dll)
4. Then click on the arrow pointing to the right, >>.
   This will move the entry to the right column labeled 'Remove'
5. Click the Finish button to complete the fix.

Go to Add/Remove and uninstall if found:

NewDotNet

Delete the following folder:

C:\Program Files\NewDotNet

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:

• Click "Options..."
• Set the slider to "Standard CleanUp!"
• Uncheck the following:
  • Delete Newsgroup cache
  • Delete Newsgroup Subscriptions
  • Scan local drives for temporary files
• Click OK

Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

WARNING - CleanUp! will delete all files and folders contained within Temporary Directories. If you knowingly have items you would like to keep that are stored in these locations; Move Them Now!!!

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner

1. Click Check Now & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
2. Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls

Begin the scan by selecting My Computer

• If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
• Please ignore any entry it finds and wants you to buy the program for removal as we will address this later.
• Click on see report. Then click Save report

Please post that log in your next reply.

What do you mean by your Java is messed up?

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with

Kaspersky WebScanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

• The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
• Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
• Now click on Scan Settings
• In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
• Click OK
• Now under select a target to scan:
  • Select My Computer
• This will program will start and scan your system.
• The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
• Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
• Save the file to your desktop.
• Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Take note the names and locations of any file it detects but fails to clean.

* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

If Java is acting up again, uninstall the version of Java you have and install the newest version from http://java.sun.com

ok but i'm still having the problem that everything is running slow

it may be my cpu but im not sure because there are programs in my processes list using up high amounts of cpu namely vsmon.exe a zone alarm thing that i can't delete and i can't stop even in safe mode unless i get rid of zone alarm

You should run CleanUp periodically to clear out old Internet Cache and cookies along with temp folders wherea lot of junk gets held. When they get bunged up, they can take up lots of disk space and slow down the performance of your computer and internet.
