Spyware Infestation (nda.exe)
Hi. I've used this website before and you saved my old computer. Well, my girlfriend's computer appears to have a spyware problem now. When rebooting Norton pops up with this message:
Malicious Script Detection High Risk Object: FileSystem Object Activity:Get Folder File: nda.exe The desktop has also changed to a solid white. When right clicking and selecting properties it gives me the same options as if I had clicked a web page. There's also a suspicious icon on the bottom right taskbar. It is red with an exclamation point in it and scrolling over pulls up the message "your computer is infected". I've never seen this before and I know that I didn't install it. I've run Ad-Aware, Spybot, CWShredder and two of the online scans. I've also got spywareblaster installed. Here is the Hijackthis log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 9:04:15 PM, on 2/27/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\ISSVC.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wdfmgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\alg.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnd.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\intell321.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\VTTimer.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Share-to-Web\hpgs2wnf.exe C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic\Update Manager\sgtray.exe C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\UsrPrmpt.exe C:\HP\KBD\KBD.EXE C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe C:\windows\system\hpsysdrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpztsb10.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe C:\Program Files\HP\hpcoretech\hpcmpmgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE C:\WINDOWS\AGRSMMSG.exe C:\Program Files\Spybot - Hello and Welcome back. Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted.
Please read this post completely before begining the fix. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Please ensure that there aren't any any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. * * * * * * Please download & Install - FixWareout.exe When you reach the final page of the installation process, make sure "Run fixit" is checked. Follow the on-screen prompts & reboot your computer when instructed to do so. **Do not be alarmed if your computer takes longer than usual to load. FixWareOut will produce a logfile, report.txt located within the C:\fixwareout folder * * * * * * ADDITIONAL DOWNLOADS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Download & install - CleanUp.exe (not recommended for WinXP64) Download & extract it to it's own folder - smitRem.exe Download and install Ewido Security Suite
'UNPLUG'/DISCONNECT your computer from the Internet when you have finished downlaoding. It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence. * * * * * * FIXING ENTRIES WITH HIJACKTHIS * * * * * * * * * * Do a HijackThis scan & place a check next to these items and select "Fix checked": R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = about:blank R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TY... io&pf=desktop R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TY...rio&pf=desktop R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.easysearch4you.com/sp2.php R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TY...rio&pf=desktop R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TY...rio&pf=desktop R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TY... io&pf=desktop R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TY... io&pf=desktop R3 - URLSearchHook: AOLTBSearch Class - {EA756889-2338-43DB-8F07-D1CA6FB9C90D} - C:\Program Files\AOL\AOL Toolbar 2.0\aoltb.dll R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {96545F71-02B3-CCC5-0179-2A885708FAE8} - newbreed.dll (file missing) F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe O2 - BHO: AOL Toolbar Launcher - {7C554162-8CB7-45A4-B8F4-8EA1C75885F9} - C:\Program Files\AOL\AOL Toolbar 2.0\aoltb.dll O2 - BHO: Viewpoint Toolbar BHO - {A7327C09-B521-4EDB-8509-7D2660C9EC98} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBarBHO.dll O3 - Toolbar: Viewpoint Toolbar - {F8AD5AA5-D966-4667-9DAF-2561D68B2012} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll O3 - Toolbar: AOL Toolbar - {DE9C389F-3316-41A7-809B-AA305ED9D922} - C:\Program Files\AOL\AOL Toolbar 2.0\aoltb.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [intell321.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\intell321.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\GameDrvr.exe" /startup "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0500.dll" O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe 1 O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [UnSpyPC] "C:\Program Files\UnSpyPC\UnSpyPC.exe" O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TemplateDongle] defect08.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [systemdll] ___.exe O8 - Extra context menu item: &AOL Toolbar Search - res://c:\program files\aol\aol toolbar 2.0\aoltbhtml.dll/search.html O8 - Extra context menu item: &Viewpoint Search - res://C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll/CXTSEARCH.HTML O9 - Extra button: AOL Toolbar - {3369AF0D-62E9-4bda-8103-B4C75499B578} - C:\Program Files\AOL\AOL Toolbar 2.0\aoltb.dll O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe (file missing) (HKCU) O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{8490D4AF-D5A1-46CE-99FE-C8E1911EF581}: NameServer = 85.255.114.24,85.255.112.122 O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{E81EB800-2210-41EB-B8CA-2B736E21AD83}: NameServer = 85.255.114.24,85.255.112.122 O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{F968A304-B6F8-445D-A136-679189CAAA63}: NameServer = 85.255.114.24,85.255.112.122 * * * * * * RESTART WINDOWS IN SAFE MODE * * * * * * * * * * 1. Nda.exe is a legitimate file pertaining to HP/Compaq Organize. Norton somehow mistakenly detects this script as malicious. You can read up about it here.

updated log
Alright, here's an update HJT log. The desktop is still weird. When restarting, first the regular background loads and then this plain white screen seems to load on top of that. It seems to be the warnhp.html you said to delete but I couldn't find it anywhere. This is the url it gives me when right clicking it:
file://C:\WINDOWS\warnhp.html I don't know if that helps at all. Here's the HJT log. Go to Control Panel click Display>Desktop>Customize Desktop>Website
Under the 'Web pages' box, Uncheck everything present. Tell me if the white screen goes away

Now that the system is clean, kindly follow these simple steps in order to keep it secure:
Update all these programs regularly. Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released. Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically. Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein After doing all these, your system will be optimised against future threats. It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks if everything is working okay. Have a safe & happy computing day. ![]() Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
