w32/downloader.hrt infection, please help!!
Hello all, I am new to the forum and I would greatly appreciate some help!
I have the Cox internet security suite and keep getting a virus message stating that w32/downloader.hrt has produced an infection in wuauclt.dll. My computer is running very slow so I can tell something is wrong. Can someone please help! I have tried to delete this file, quarantine it, everything I can think of on my knowledge level (which isn't all that great ) Below is my current HJT log.Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you much! Win32 infections
I followed your 5 steps to success log, During my etrust scan I found the following infected, all having to do with killbox.exe
win32.notiex.c win32.sillydl.zp win32.qoologic.n win32.notiex.c I followed that scan up with Panda Software, which found the same as well as some "tracking cookies" One thing to mention I feel might be significant is when I followed the directions to reconfigure my startup under msconfig, I found things such as.. virtual bouncer pokapoka78...etc I checked these and restarted the computer as stated in the instructions and the computer was extremely slow to get running. Below is my new HJT log Thanks again for you help, hopefully you can assist me in getting this thing back on track Jason Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 1:33:34 PM, on 2/17/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe c:\program files\cox\applications\app\CurtainsSysSvcNt.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Command Software\dvpapi.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\HPConfig.exe C:\Program Files\HPQ\Notebook Utilities\HPWirelessMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Linksys\Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with SpeedBooster\NICServ.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\HPZipm12.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPLpr.exe C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe C:\Program Files\HPQ\One-Touch\OneTouch.EXE C:\Program Files\BroadJump\Client Foundation\CFD.exe C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe C:\Program Files\Linksys\Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with SpeedBooster\OdHost.exe C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ymsgr_tray.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\msiexec.exe C:\Program Files\Linksys\Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with SpeedBooster\WPC54Cfg.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\hjt\HijackThis.exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://store.presario.net/scripts/re...c=1c02&lc=0409 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://www.cox.net/ R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Internet Explorer Provided by Cox High Speed Internet F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\auserinit.exe O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll O2 - BHO: AuthBHO.cBHO - {A4D90779-6CB2-4752-83C2-A2AB4D9A672D} - C:\Program Files\Cox\Applications\app\AuthBHO.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Radio - {8E718888-423F-11D2-876E-00A0C9082467} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdxm.ocx O3 - Toolbar: Cox Popup Blocker - {64634180-B0EA-48B6-82B7-9620D33362C1} - C:\Program Files\Cox\Applications\app\AuthBHO.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ATIPTA] C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PreloadApp] c:\hp\drivers\printers\photosmart\hphprld.exe c:\hp\drivers\printers\photosmart\setup.exe -d O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [srmclean] C:\Cpqs\Scom\srmclean.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Display Settings] C:\Program Files\HPQ\Notebook Utilities\hptasks.exe /s O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SynTPLpr] C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPLpr.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SynTPEnh] C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINDOWS\System32\wwcoqr.exe reg_run O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VBouncer] C:\PROGRA~1\VBouncer\VirtualBouncer.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe -osboot O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service78] C:\WINDOWS\etb\pokapoka78.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service76] C:\WINDOWS\\\etb\\pokapoka76.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QT4HPOT] C:\Program Files\HPQ\One-Touch\OneTouch.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cpqset] C:\Program Files\HPQ\Default Settings\cpqset.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BJCFD] C:\Program Files\BroadJump\Client Foundation\CFD.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [APD123] C:\WINDOWS\System32\APD123.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdaptecDirectCD] "C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe" O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Yahoo! Rootkit.win32.agent.ao infection
Friend-
Thanks for your help so far. I followed your instructions to a "T". Below are the results of your requested scan. A few things to update you on are the following. Delete this file to be clean again - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\atmtd.dll
Kindly follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Update all these programs regularly. Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released. Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically. Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein After doing all these, your system will be optimised against future threats. It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks if everything is working okay. Have a safe & happy computing day. ![]() Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
