grassi, my friend, you've got to stop clicking on things. We have provided you links to any anti-malware tools you need to protect yourself. As you keep finding out, there are many, many rogue programs out there--this is the 3rd time you've been infected with a variant of Smitfraud. Since you wanted to get rid of the tools we had you download last time, you'll need to re-download again.

----------------------------

**Note: I am having you run the smitrem tool again in case there are any other variants that may have worked their way into your system but not apparent in HijackThis yet.

Read these instructions carefully and thoroughly and make sure to carry them out in the exact order as given:

Please copy this page to Notepad since you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out these instructions.

----------------------------

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

*Note* Alternate download sites for smitrem... http://www.downloads.subratam.org/smitRem.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/file...ar/smitRem.exe

----------------------------

Download DelDomains.inf
Right-click and select..... Save Target As

To use: Right-click and select....... Install (no need to restart)
**Note** This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone"

----------------------------

Download Ewido Security Suite
  • Install Ewido Security Suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Double-click the icon on Desktop to launch Ewido
You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
  • Then click on Start Update.
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido
When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido.

----------------------------

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates: Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

---------------------------

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading:
* select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
*Also, make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types.
* Click OK.

---------------------------

Click Start->Run - type SERVICES.MSC & then click on the OK button
*Locate the service - AlfaCleanerService - AlfaCleaner.com
*Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog.
*Under the General tab: Write down the Service Name listed there. We will need it shortly. *Stop the service by using the Stop button.
*Change the Startup type to Disabled & then click on the OK button

Next, start HiJackThis & go to Config>Misc.Tools...> Delete an NT service...
*In the popup box that appears, copy/paste the Service Name you found listed in the General Tab Click on the OK button.

---------------------------

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.

---------------------------

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

AlfaCleaner

---------------------------

Run a scan in HijackThis. 'Check' each of the following if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [intell321.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\intell321.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlfaCleaner] C:\Program Files\AlfaCleaner\AlfaCleaner.exe
O23 - Service: AlfaCleanerService - AlfaCleaner.com - C:\Program Files\AlfaCleaner\ACServer.exe

Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis.

---------------------------

Delete the following Files and Folders if they exist.

C:\Program Files\ AlfaCleaner
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ intell321.exe

---------------------------

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

---------------------------

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

---------------------------

Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
  • Click Scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan to begin scanning.
  • Click OK when prompted to clean files
With the first file it prompts to clean, select the option:
  • "Perform action on all infections"
  • Choose clean and click OK.
Once finished, click the Save report button & save the report to your desktop

** Ewido scan would require at least an hour.

---------------------------

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Desktop Uninstall" if present.

---------------------------

Reboot back into Normal Mode.

---------------------------

Perform an online scan using Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
  1. Click Check Now & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
  2. Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  • Please ignore any entry it finds and wants you to buy the program for removal as we will address this later.
  • Click on see report. Then click Save report
Please post that log in your next reply.

So I will need the following logs and reports:

smitrem.txt (located at C:\smitrem.txt)
Ewido Results
Panda Results
New HijackThis log

After you download and save Ewido, install it, then do the following to update the definitions. Just take it one step at a time.
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck:
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Double-click the icon on Desktop to launch Ewido
**At this point, you need to reconnect to the internet
You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
  • Then click on Start Update.
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido
When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido.

Nice job grassi, you did just fine.

Reboot into Safe Mode. (tapping F8)

------------------------

Delete the following file and folder:

C:\WINDOWS\ uninstDsk.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Application Data\ AlfaCleaner

------------------------

Clear your Internet Explorere Cookies: Launch Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Delete Cookies

------------------------

Reboot into Normal Mode. Run another scan with Panda and post the results here once again. I'd also like to see the following log:

Open HJT and click Config> Misc Tools.

Under System Tools, click on Open hosts file manager.

After it loads, click on Open in Notepad. Copy and paste the contents of that Notepad file here.

Hi grassi,

As we remove these AlphaCleaner entries, others are exposed.

Delete this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Application Data\ Skinux

Run Panda again and post it here. We're going to run it until there aren't any more files/folders detected as AlphaCleaner.

Good morning, grassi,

Ok, you're all clean now. Let's re-set everything now.

Reset hidden/system files and folders
Windows XP
===============
Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View tab.
* Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option.
* Select the Hide file extensions for known types option.
* Select the Hide protected operating system files option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Create a new System Restore point
Click Start >> Run - type SYSDM.CPL & press Enter
* Select the System Restore Tab
* Tick on the checkbox - "Turn off System Restore on all drives"
Click Apply
* Then untick the same checkbox & click OK
This will prevent any reinfection from previous restore points.

As I mentioned before, the programs we've already given you are a great defense. You need to be wary of any Anti-Malware programs that advertise via pop ups. If you want to try new anti-malware programs, research them first through google.

This time around, please leave the entries for Panda ActiveScan--don't remove them as it will speed up the online scan process. If you remove the .dll's and the ActiveX, the next time you go to Panda you'll have to dowload all that again. (It takes up an insignificant amount of space on your PC) Also, leave Ewido on your system so you won't have to go through that install again. It's always a good idea to have a second scanner on your PC to get a 'second opinion'. No one scanner will find everything. Update and scan with Ewido weekly. It is not an anti-virus, it is an anti-malware tool.

You may delete the smitrem tool if you wish.

My System

thank you for your time, can i customize homepage? Its all white now?? sorry i already uninstalled panda and all Start>Search results, that stuff is really just confusing me with all of the texts, notes, folders it creates, soon i will understand where these folders are going, to keep consolidated. Right now i have strange looking folders all over. in windows folder especially, My computer was cleaning up untill this problem. By deleting all these programs these last couple of weeks my computer # of processes went down, speed increased, freed up the most space yet on pc, 93% so i would at least like to beable to get these back. after clean up and defrag its free space is 90% i guess thats close enough for now. thanks again ried "your the best"

Download WinPFInd http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/oldtimer/WinPFind.zip and extract it to your C:\ folder. This will create a folder called WinPFind in the C:\ folder. Do Not run it yet.

Inside C:\WinPFind is a file called WinPFind.exe. Double-click on this file to launch the program. Once it is launched, click on the Start Scan button and wait for it to finish. This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works as it can take a while, upwards to 30 minutes or more.! Once the Scan is Complete it will make a txt file (log) of what was found. Save that log and post it here.

Restart one more time back into Normal Mode, run a scan with HijackThis and save the log to post here.

My System

ried i dont think i did this right it didnt give me option to extract till after the scan, when i went through some win p find folders in c:, i found that option. Also .exe was no where in any of these winpfind folders(WinPFind.exe.) heres what i came up with anyway.......

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

The tool ran properly. I'm just looking for any other entries that may be on your system. I'm surprised Panda didn't report that file.

Go ahead and delete this file: C:\WINDOWS\ warnhp.html

As AlphaCleaner is one of the newest variants, I'd like you to do one more online scan with Kaspersky.

Please perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
