Mistake yyy65 & 888.com popups etc + trojans.

Hi.

As of a few days ago i've been getting several popups along with several different trojans(and when i say several, i mean several )
As an avid MMORPG gamer this is really getting to me, random popups...horrible fps/performance/loadtimes in game, it's a nightmare.

A majority of the popups have been webpages ending with /yyy65.html and 888.com ads. there are several more that don't seem to "pop" as frequently which i have listed below(keep in mind these are only the ones i remembered to log into a notepad files, there are most likely more ones that dont seem to be "grouped")

http://www.amaena.com/securityworm2/?aid=mwav1&lid=mm44
http://ww.smashits.com/vendare.html
http://www.winantiviruspro.com/?aid=...lid=popup_html
http://www.z404.com/ad/az_landing_asap.php
http://www.browserbuy-out.com/normal/XBDYUS.html
http://www.buycostaricanland.com/corporate/form.htm
http://www.softwareoutlet.com/Mercha...duct_Code=0223
http://registration.musthavefreegift...ate/CD391.9676
http://www.instantnavigation.com/sea...&partner=my_tk
http://www.blow-outsales.com/normal/XBDYUS.html
http://www.smartbargains.com/?TID=6221035&aid=341

Anyway there are several trojans/viruses as well,
Trojan.Agent.NAH
Adware.Dinky.A Trojan
Backdoor.AWX
Trojan.Aimbot.AJ
Backdoor.Rbot.ABM
Trojan.Dropper.Agent.TV
Trojan.Downloader.Tsupdate.O
Trojan.Canbede.L
Trojan.Clicker.VB.X
Trojan.Downloader.Agent.FE
Application.Adware.NewDotNet.B.Dropper

theres simply too many for me to list :/.

Now I've run several programs such as Ad-Aware and Spybot as well as Norton Anti-Virus to name a few. It finds many infected files/trojans etc yet there are always some left which it cannot delete(which are in the memory etc).

Anyway. to the HJT log:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Also if you have any programs that may prevent system changes (like Spybot's TeaTimer program, Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, and others), make sure you disable them before doing any of the fixes (or accept the changes for the fix we give you when asked by the programs).

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Click "Install" to extract the contents to a newly created folder.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.
  • From the l2mfix folder, double click l2mfix.bat
  • Select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter.
Your desktop and icons will disappear as L2mfix scans/disinfects your computer.
When finished, you will be required to press any key to automatically reboot.
On the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy/paste the contents of that log back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder to locate log.txt.

If you receive an error - \system32\Autoexec.nt is not suitable for running MS-Dos applications, you will need to visit this website to download additional files.

IMPORTANT!:

Before we can proceed any further, please visit the Microsoft's Windows Update Page and install ALL Critical Updates for your system (except service pack 2) (SP2). SP2 should only be installed on a fully disinfected system. At the minimum install at least SP1a for both XP and IE6. Without these updates your system is wide open to re-infection and we are both wasting our efforts to clean your system. After we have completed your clean-up, we will have you return to the Windows Update page and install SP2. We will also then advise you on how to better protect yourself online.

Please apply those updates BEFORE posting your next log. It is this forum's policy to stop the disinfection process until these basic updates are done. If during the updating process you get a message that your product key is invalid ....then you may not have a legitimate copy of Windows XP. Unfortunately it's also this forums policy that we only address users with a legal copy of Windows XP.... therefore if you can not update Windows XP to SP1 we must stop the cleansing process here.

**Note** If your having trouble locating the service pack SP1a here is a direct link to download it from..

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...p1a_en_x86.exe

Thank you for your cooperation.

· Reboot your system in Normal Mode.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan

Click on the "Free To Use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
  1. Click Check Now and a "pop up" window will appear. * Please ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it *
  2. Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click Scan Now * The download of the 8 MB Panda's ActiveX control will take place *
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  • Please ignore any entry it finds and the offer to buy the program to remove the entry, as we will address this later.
  • Click on See report then click Save report
*You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
*Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Paste the Panda Scan report here together with a new HiJack This log.

Hello Ajk,

We need you to update your Windows XP to SP1a before we can continue:
Quote:
Before we can proceed any further, please visit the Microsoft's Windows Update Page and install ALL Critical Updates for your system (except service pack 2 (SP2). SP2 should only be installed on a fully disinfected system.) At the minimum install at least SP1a for both XP and IE6.

Unfortunately it’s also this forums policy that we only address users with a legal copy of Windows XP.... therefore if you can not update Windows XP to SP1 we must stop the cleansing process here.

**Note** If you're having trouble locating the service pack SP1a here is a direct link to download it from.

Oops, must have missed that part. Should I run anything again after I download this and/or get new logs?

The Panda log is fine, no need to repeat that, but, after you update to XP SP1, run a new scan with HijackThis and post the log here.

Thank you for updating Windows, this will go a long way towards keeping your comptuer clean and making less work for us. It is normal for Windows to take longer to boot up immediatly after installing updates. Windows is using this time to update files that are in use while Windows is running.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Viewing Hidden Files
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Downloads(make sure to save these in a permanent location)
ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

HijackThis!
Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CU2] C:\Program Files\Common Files\VCClient\VCMain.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CU1] C:\Program Files\Common Files\VCClient\VCClient.exe

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

File and Folder Deletions
Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist.
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\SskUpdater3.exe
C:\WINDOWS\drsmartload2.dat
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VCClient

Tools
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    Under Main choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Reboot your system in Normal Mode.

Run a new scan with Hijackthis and post the log here.
How is your system running now? Are you still seeing popups?

HijackThis!
Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: RunOnce - C:\WINDOWS\system32\g4jo0e13eh.dll (file missing)

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

Your log appears to be clean. If you still have any problems let me know and we will work on diagnosing those through other means. If not, there are just a few more things to go through to finish this off and help prevent future infections. Please post one more time even if you have no problems so we can mark this thread as resolved.

Disabling the Viewing of Hidden and System Files
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option.
  • Select the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Select the Hide protected operating system files option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Setting a new Restore Point
Go to Start >> Run - type control sysdm.cpl,,4 & press Enter.
  • Tick the checkbox - Turn off System Restore on all drives
  • Click Apply
  • Turn it back 'On' by unticking the same checkbox & click OK

Windows Update
Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at Microsoft Update Site.

Prevention
A good virus scanner is a necessity in today's computer environment. Many virus scanners include active components that protect you from infection without even running a scan. Some good free antivirus programs include:
AVG Free
Avast! Home Edition (Antivirus & Firewall)
AntiVir

A firewall is the first line of defense standing between the internet and your computer. Some good free firewalls are:
Zone Alarm
Outpost
Tiny Personal Firewall
Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall

Adaware SE and Spybot SD are a pair of anti-spyware scanners that should be run every week or two. Although there is some overlap there are many pieces of malware that is caught by one of these and not the other, therefore it is recommended you use both to compliment each other. Spybot also contains two other useful pieces. The first is "Immunize", this helps protect your computer against known exploits. The second is "TeaTimer", with this feature enabled you will receive notifications of all changes to the registry such as programs adding themselves to start-up and you default search page being changed.

Spyware Blaster is a powerful tool that prevents "drive-by" downloads and other unwanted installations. It also uses no system resources, run it once and you're all set. Spyware Guard Is a realtime protection engine to guard your computer from spyware. This program does for spyware what an antivirus program does for viruses.

IE-Spyad is a program that only needs to be run once to protect you from many malicious sites. It adds domains of known adware companies into the Restricted List of Internet Explorer, preventing them from performing malicious actions on your PC.

The MVPS HOSTS file is a file you can download and use to replace your regular hosts file. It prevents many sites from performing malicious actions by blocking the sites from ever being accessed.

Together these programs form a powerful barrier between the Internet and your computer. However, all the programs stand alone and feel free to eliminate any you are not comfortable with. Any protection you add to your PC is better than no protection at all.

Alternative Programs
Here are some alternatives that are either less suceptible than others to malware or don't contain malware where similar programs do.

Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)

Desktop Weather - Free taskbar weather program that is free, malware free, and resource light.

Firefox - This is an increasingly popular alternate browser. Whilst Internet Explorer is not a bad browser, almost every exploit crafted is targeted to take advantage of an IE weakness.

Sun's Java - It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine.
