Very slow, constant popups, unable to delete problem files, details inside.
I'm new here and trying my best to abide by the posting procedure.
Details: I have run ad-aware, spybot search and destroy, and cw shredder. They all delete some spyware/adware but always say some could not be deleted. I tried running them in safe mode but still couldn't deleted all of it. Every once and a while when I get online, a new window will open saying I may be infected by the "black worm" virus and it advises me to download their anti virus software. I'm not sure if this is just a trick, so I haven't downloaded it. The popups range from casinos to online shopping(dunno if that helps or not). My desktop looks blurry and the icons have a strange grey shadow to them as if they're selected(but they're not). Homepage was also changed to c:\secure32.html it will not allow me to change it back. Here's the log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.0 Scan saved at 9:35:32 PM, on 2/7/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\EPSON\EBAPI\eEBSVC.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\EPSON\EBAPI\SAgent2.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpb2ksrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpbhksrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\inet20010\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\hkcmd.exe C:\WINDOWS\BCMSMMSG.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpnra.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpstatus.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03\bin\javaw.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\paytime.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\wgse.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03\bin\jucheck.exe C:\PROGRA~1\MUSICM~1\MUSICM~2\MMDiag.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\Program Files\Musicmatch\Musicmatch Jukebox\mim.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\HPBSPSVR.EXE C:\Program Files\FreeRAM XP Pro\FreeRAM XP Pro.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBUpdate\qbupdate.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\HPBJDSNT.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\wbem\wmiapsrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\dllcache\IExplore.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\dllcache\IExplore.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\dllcache\IExplore.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\dllcache\IExplore.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpsw.exe D:\Backup Folder\documents and settings\All Users\Documents\AOL Downloads\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - Thanks for the help! I was unable to start the Panda ActiveScan though. It would not allow me to select any options to scan. Bottom of window said "Error on page". Also, I am still getting pop-ups, is my computer still infected?

VX2 has reared it's ugly head.
You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot. From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. It will process then start. Do NOT depress any keys on your keyboard until the tool requests you to "press any key to reboot" Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread. IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so! If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder and post that log. -------------------------------- Run a scan with HiJackThis & place a check next to these items and select "Fix checked": R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.onlinesecurityguide.net/?adv=193 O20 - Winlogon Notify: SideBySide - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jt0u07d9e.dll (file missing) -------------------------------- Run a new scan with HJT, save the log and post it here. -------------------------------- Try this online scan....make sure to allow the ActiveX control be installed. Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.

The KasperSky Log is 885718 characters. I'd have to divide it over 8 posts to get it on here. Are you Sure this is what you want me to do?
If you don't want the entire log, here are the basics: Scan Statistics: Total number of scanned objects: 148507 Number of viruses found: 33 Number of infected objects: 7441 Number of suspicious objects: 2 Duration of the scan process: 7589 sec Almost every file was infected by: Virus.Win32.Sality.k These would show up every once in a while too: AdWare.Win32.Suggestor.o AdWare.Win32.Look2Me.ab Trojan.Win32.Agent.nw Trojan-Spy.Win32.Delf.ig Trojan.Win32.KillAV.gz Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Small.cam Trojan-Proxy.Win32.Wopla.q Trojan-Clicker.Win32.VB.kc Email-Worm.Win32.Delf.i Backdoor.Win32.Agent.qr SpamTool.Win32.Mailbot.ag There was too much to check it all, but I gathered this much. I need the locations and file names of the infections, more than the infection names.
Since you have no AV product onboard, let's have you use this Kaspersky trial. Please download & install the trial version of Kaspersky Personal Pro Have it update it's virus definitions & then exit the program. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. Restart your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter. Do a full system scan & have Kaspersky disinfect all that it finds. Once that's done, boot to normal mode, run a new online scan, and post those results. It should be quite a bit smaller.

Whoops, shoulda asked for a new HJT log as well. Please run a new scan with HJT, save the log and post it here.
That's looking promising. How's your system behaving?

The wallpaper resolution is also blurry. I checked the settings, but the screen resolution and color quality are maxed. 1024 by 768 pixels and Highest(32 bit) color. Are these the default settings? Thanks, again, for all the help you've given me. I really appreciate it!! |

Is your theme set to XP style?
To set it back to XP-theme, rightclick on your desktop > properties > tab Appearances and choose Windows XP style again under windows and buttons. Click apply and OK.

Hi ElementZn -
Let's go back to an old-school fix for this infection's side effect. Please follow the instructions here to repair your desktop. Also, I have attached a file to this post - del.zip Download this file to your desktop. Double click on the zip folder, then double click on the reg file within. Click yes to allow it to merge into your registry.

Hi Mike -
Yep, there sure is. First....which portion of the fix did it for you? The regfix alone, or did you have to replace the luna theme? Next, take heed of these final instructions, please: Well done. Your logs are clean. Any more issues? If not you should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Reset hidden/system files and folders
Create a new System Restore point
Enable Windows Auto Update
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
If you do not have a firewall, here are 4 free ones available for personal use: In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.

I am most familiar with ZoneAlarm, which it appears you have already. I trust it to be effective.
