AZE Search + other problems..HJT log
Gidday all,
I have done as much of the admin requests before posting my HJT log...I think I have AZE Search and other adware/spyware programs on my cpu..I've deleted most of the files but I think there are still a few here and there. Could somebody please help me out at all with the HijackThis log? Sorry if I haven't done something or am doing something wrong...I'm one of those, what I'd like to call a CGW (Cpu-Geek-Wannabe) so please bare with me. Just reading through the HijackThis log I can see a few files that are not supposed to be thing (I think anyway) but I would rather leave it to somebody who actually knows what they're doing to determine that. Thanks in advance. Cheers, Andrew aka nuggy Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 11:22:41 PM, on 9/01/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Canon\MultiPASS4\MPSERVIC.EXE C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\AdvTools\NPROTECT.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\SAVScan.exe C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXE C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\essspk.exe C:\Program Files\SlySoft\AnyDVD\AnyDVD.exe C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 6\DragToDisc\DrgToDsc.exe C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 6\AudioCentral\RxMon.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliType Pro\type32.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\point32.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgcc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgemc.exe C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_09\bin\jusched.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\XCSyncML.exe C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 6\AudioCentral\Playlist.exe C:\Program Files\VideoMate\ComproPVR\ComproPVR.exe C:\Program Files\VideoMate\ComproPVR\Common\ComproRemote.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Distillr\AcroTray.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\Program Files\HJT\HijackThis.exe R1 - Hello and Welcome. Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted.
Please read this post completely before begining the fix. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Please ensure that there aren't any any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. * * * * * * ADDITIONAL DOWNLOADS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Download & install - CleanUp.exe (not recommended for WinXP64) Download & extract it to it's own folder - smitRem.exe Download and install Ewido Security Suite
If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, download and update aawsepersonal.exe 'UNPLUG'/DISCONNECT your computer from the Internet when you have finished downlaoding. It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order. * * * * * * FIXING ENTRIES WITH HIJACKTHIS * * * * * * * * * * Do a HijackThis scan & place a check next to these items and select "Fix checked": R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = c:\secure32.html R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = c:\secure32.html R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = c:\secure32.html R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\secure32.html R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\secure32.html R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=explorer.exe O2 - BHO: AzEntretien Class - {0d2def3a-f4f1-42ec-ac4f-132e7ba6e292} - %SystemRoot%\azentretien.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: MSNToolBandBHO - {BDBD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\MSN Toolbar\01.02.3000.1001\en-us\msntb.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: Windows Genuine Tool - {c815ace8-3dbf-4ffd-8231-ab1d21e8b7ee} - %SystemRoot%\system32\sirenacms.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: ZToolbar Activator Class - {da7ff3f8-08be-4cac-bc00-94d91c6ae7f4} - C:\WINDOWS\azesearch4.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: AddressBar Class - {f65b197f-8260-4d52-909a-f70118e646eb} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\iasada.dll (file missing) O3 - Toolbar: AZE Search - {a19ef336-01d4-48e6-926a-fe7e1c747aed} - C:\WINDOWS\azesearch4.dll (file missing) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ulwuegvatry] C:\WINDOWS\System32\pgyzwh.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PayTime] C:\WINDOWS\system32\paytime.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [timessquare] c:\windows\timessquare.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [adtech2006] c:\windows\adtech2006a.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Office] C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvcp.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Shell] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00001.exe" O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows installer] C:\winstall.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PayTime] C:\WINDOWS\system32\paytime.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [aupd] C:\WINDOWS\system32\sywsvcs.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CU1] C:\Program Files\Common Files\VCClient\VCClient.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CU2] C:\Program Files\Common Files\VCClient\VCMain.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [okzz] C:\Program Files\Common Files\okzz\okzzm.exe O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.lizzy.com.au O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file) * * * * * * RESTART WINDOWS IN SAFE MODE * * * * * * * * * * 1. Select the option to run Windows in Safe Mode. * * * * * * DELETING FILES/FOLDERS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * If you have not done so already, please enable the viewing of Hidden files From Windows Explorer, go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab.
* * * * * * PURGING TEMP FOLDERS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Run Cleanup! using the following configuration: 1. Click Options... 2. Set the slider initially to Standard CleanUp! 3. Uncheck the following:
5. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. 6. Do NOT reboot/logoff if prompted. * CleanUp! will not create any backups!! * * * * * * RUNNING ADDITIONAL SCANNERS * * * * * * * * * * * Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply. * * * * Next go to Control Panel click Display>Desktop>Customize Desktop>Website Under the 'Web pages' box, Uncheck everything present. * * * * Open Ad-aware and close ALL other windows. 1. Click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window:
3. Click Start 4. Choose - Perform Full System Scan 5. DeSelect "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat. 6. Click Next and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically. 7. If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window 8. Right-click on the list and choose Select All 9. Click Next to finish removing the items that were found * * * * * Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
** Ewido scan would require at least an hour. I suggest that you go grab a cup of coffee & do something else while you wait for it to complete. * * * * * * REBOOT TO NORMAL MODE * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.

The Aftermath Of The Process Part 1
Gidday fellas
Thanks very much for the advice...I followed all the instructions however the was one problem but I'll go through each step: Installed all 3 programs A-okay. Disconnected cpu from internet Placed a check next the all of the listed items in HijackThis and clicked on "Fix Checked" Started Cpu in Safe Mode....ALTHOUGH...when I pressed F8 no menu came up and it just went straight to safe mode...anyone know why? After about 20 minutes, I realised that I was in Safe Mode after trying to access the help menu and it being disabled... Went to delete the listed files to delete: None of these files were there so therefore I didn't have to delete anything- I suspect that this was the whole point of this exercise or Am I wrong? Ran Cleanup! Did everything asked to do and I didnt restart. NOW...when I went to open the smitrem folder it was titled smitrem.exe AND there was no runthis.bat and hence smitfiles.txt anywhere.... WHAT DID I DO WRONG??? Did the control panel thing with the tools view etc. Ran AD-ADWARE RAN Ewido Rebooted Did Kasper scan So what I have is: HiJackThis Log Online Scan Ewido's log But no smitfiles.txt.....3 out of 4 aint bad eh?................OR IS IT VERY BAD? Changing the subject...well sorta.....I cant beleive how many less files there are in my Windows directory!!!!! Must have had a lot of **** in there!!! Andrew,
Please use Symantec's guide to remove quarantined files. Then post a fresh HJT log so that I may verify that you're clean.

Andrew,
Something that requires your immediate intervention. I notice that you have more than one anti-virus programs on your machine (AVG & Symentec). That's not a good idea!! This messes up the machine pretty badly. Alike firewalls, anti-virus programs have conflicts co-existing with each other & may produce undesirable results. Please uninstall ALL leaving only one of them. ALL the antivirus programs must be removed via add/remove program. For any program that doesn't have an add/remove entry, you will have to do this: re-install the program -> reboot -> uninstallPlease post a new log after doing so.

Okay,
I have uninstalled AVG and I now only have Norton Anti-Virus...however, I have a Symantec anti virus program in my common files folder via internet....I usually run that once every now and then along with trend micro housecall or panda....should I uninstall Norton-anti virus and just use the online scanners or uninstall the symantec anti-virus program in my common files folder? Here's another HJT log anyhow. By the way, Do you know what the ATI hotkey poller thing is? Your current configuration is ideal. Always keep an active antivirus program on your machine. You will require the real time scanner engine it provides.
ATI hotkey poller is the control panel for your ATI display/graphic card. It's legit. Your system is clean. If you have not patched yourself against the WMF exploit yet, please refer to my sig. Kindly follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Update all these programs regularly. Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released. Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically. Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein After doing all these, your system will be optimised against future threats. It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks if everything is working okay. Have a safe & happy computing day. ![]() Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.

Thanks very much for everything...I cannot begin to express my appreciation for all your help and advice...I will be definately looking into making some kind of a donation also!
I have one last question for you...my hard drive is partitioned...120gb total-4.46gb on D: and 107gb C:...now what was supposed to happen was to put all the windows system files on the D: and all other files on C:...however that did not happen...would I have to reinstall windows and change the installation into a windows folder on D: or could I just like copy and paste the windows folder from C: to D: or something similar? And, would you recommend having the windows system folder on its own partitioned drive or does it really matter?- ie is it safer or anything? This should be my last question I promise....if you would rather me post this question in another area on the forum, I would be more than welcome to..that would be the least I could do! Cheers and thanks once again! Andrew |

If it were my computer, I would would use some sort of utility like Partition Manager to resize C to be around 12GB & keep Windows there. Then create a new partiton, E to be 3-4 GB. The remainder of the disk space may be used on D. There's a reason for creating E. In the event of an emergency, I can install another OS into E & use that to access/repair whatever's troubling C.
It may be wise to pose this query in the WIndows forum. Afterall, this is the malware forum.
