TSF is undergoing 'improvements' so this site will be slow to load for a while.

Can you run Startdreck?

will try on sunday

Hi Ried: That explains the slow page loading. Good to know.

I am going away on a retreat later this after (need to get away from this darned computer!!!) so I'll try startdreck on Sunday night or Monday. I have to finish some work and having to run in safe mode for start dreck and waiting takes too long. so, I'll leave this until then- give you time to help somebody else and take a break from me

Thanks for all the help- I'll be back to this on Sunday.

cdnt' run startdreck.

Took so long to get back to it because, to be honest, couldn't face the ordeal. But---- finally did it and guess what- couldn't run startdreck!! It shut down immediately. So, am i at the end of the road?

Hi Deborah,

Not the end of the road yet. Download Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP.

Try once again to run Startdreck. (from Normal Mode)

didn't work and another question?

Did what you asked- still got the not responding message. Had to shut start dreck down again.

Also, strangely, I have my stuff backed up to a back up system which runs from another company's location. I guess it's like an external thing- every day at a certain time, the computer backs up to my stuff to this outside company. It hasn't done this in the last 2 weeks and when I try to go to my icon, windows doesn't seem to recognize the program. Do you think these spykiller programs I"ve been running has deleted the file? If so, how do I get it back?

What is the name of the program you are referring to?

program called connected data protector

It is called Connected Data Protector. I pay a yearly fee and my stuff backs up onto their server and data centre. It happens everyday at the same time so I don't have to remember to back up and if my computer dies, my work is somewhere else and I can retrieve it. But it isn't working and I suspect I might have done something, although I can see all the files if I go to program files. But in start-programs- the file that is there doesn't work. Am I explaining this clearly?

Deborah,

Way back on Page 1 of this thread, Post #18, the second to last entry in your Ewido results, you'll see this:
Quote:
C:\Program Files\Connected\COBackup.exe -> Heuristic.Win32.Dialer : Cleaned with backup
Open Ewido and click on the Quarantine button on the left. Look for the entry listed above, created 1/13/06 and click the 'Restore' button.

it worked-anything next?

Thanks- it worked. Do I have to be worried about this happening again? Also, still can't run startdreck. Shall I give up and assume we've done all we can do with this?

thanks

deborah

Hi Deborah,

If you mean worry about Ewido taking something out that is legit--yes. Save the following instructions for reference when you scan with Ewido in the future:

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.

I'm still working on that Startdreck issue. We do not need that report any longer, but I still would like to find out what is causing the problem. Please remain subscribed to this thread and I'll get back to you as soon as possible on that.
