ads in web pages with popups and redirect
last week i was attacked by spy sheriff among others and am just now able to spend some time cleaning. the initial home page redirect and blue desktop wre not to tough to get fixed but there has been a persistent browser problem. while viewing web sites including this one, ads appear at the top and bottom of the page and on my back button i see the web address banners.searchingbooth.com. i am also plagued by pop ups, the scary part is they appear even when internet explorer is not running. i have now gone thru all the cleaning software..spybot..ad-aware..antivirus scans and even as i work on this message i see no popups or ads refreshing themselves on the top and bottom of this window so maybe im ok but i want to send my hijack log just in case. can you help?

Hello and Welcome. Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted.
Please read this post completely before begining the fix. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Please ensure that there aren't any any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix. * * * * * * Please disable Ewido's real-time scanner, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean. To disable Ewido's real-time scanner:
* * * * * * ADDITIONAL DOWNLOADS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Download & install CleanUp.exe (not recommended for WinXP64) Download KillBox v2.0.0.175.exe (it's important that you get version v2.0.0.175) You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files. Launch Ewido & click Update from the left pane Then click on Start Update. If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido. Please download & Install - FixWareout.exe When you reach the final page of the installation process, make sure "Run fixit" is checked. Follow the on-screen prompts & reboot your computer when instructed to do so. **Do not be alarmed if your computer takes longer than usual to load. After you have restarted, wait for HijackThis to launch automatically. With HiJackThis & place a check next to these items and select "Fix checked": R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {68319495-C2E5-A012-BE50-F7C617EFA96A} - ExchangeMaster.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: BHOmodObj Class - {7F6828CA-9E42-462C-BC60-418C8144012C} - c:\windows\system\BHOmod.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C5AF2622-8C75-4dfb-9693-23AB7686A456} - C:\WINDOWS\DH.dll (file missing) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PFO Check Settings] pfochk.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [drsmartloadb] c:\\drsmartloadb.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmcur.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmcur.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [UnSpyPC] "C:\Program Files\UnSpyPC\UnSpyPC.exe" O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [porka_] srbho.exe O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{18F6633B-4948-41BC-838D-0CE991E73AA0}: NameServer = 85.255.114.62,85.255.112.97 O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{31B69C6E-E283-47CA-867E-D0DF7175EA3A}: NameServer = 85.255.114.62,85.255.112.97 O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{C1E373C6-121F-48CA-BB35-2EF025CAE285}: NameServer = 85.255.114.62,85.255.112.97 O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{C239E5D9-6D7A-4A20-9BD0-33DCE5EF2931}: NameServer = 85.255.114.62,85.255.112.97 O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{F2CD160F-F680-407A-AE39-62727BB9B3A4}: NameServer = 85.255.114.62,85.255.112.97 O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{18F6633B-4948-41BC-838D-0CE991E73AA0}: NameServer = 85.255.114.62,85.255.112.97 O20 - Winlogon Notify: msupdate - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msupdate32.dll Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed. Please create a new directory - C:\Program Files\HijackThis Extract HijackThis into there. Once you have done that, it's IMPORTANT that you double click on hijackthis.exe to run the program. Exit the program once you have done so. * * * * * * Save the following instructions in Notepad & ensure that Ewido is disabled. Keep it disabled till I tell you you're clean. Go to Start > Run - type C:\fixwareout\FixIt.bat <Press Enter> This will run the fixwareout tool again Follow the on-screen prompts & reboot your computer when instructed to do so. After you have restarted, wait for HijackThis to launch automatically. worked as you said. i was able to follow your instructions up to the point of deleting files/folders at which point i did not find c:\program files\ISTsvc or c:....power scan or c:....SideFind. i did delete all the others in the list. Once again i could not get ewido to run in safe mode. it seems to start up and i see it in the task manager and on the task bar but i cannot get a window to open where i can start the scan. i skipped ewido this time and so am not including the log. i have attached a fresh log from hijack, from fixware and from kaspersky. my browser seems to be stable and under control at this point with no popups or redirects.

Everything seems to be on track. You're on your way to a full recovery
![]() I still do not understand why Ewido was unable to run in Safe Mode. That where's Ewido is most effective. Perhaps you should contact the developers of Ewido to inform them of this bug in their software. * * * * * * ADDITIONAL DOWNLOADS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Right click on this & choose "Save As..." DelO15Domains.inf - DelO15Domains.inf Right click on DelO15Domains.inf and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete the file afterwards. Host.zip - From within Host.zip, double click on MVPS.bat & allow it to run. Right click on this & select 'Save As' - DNSManual.bat Doubleclick on DNSManual.bat & allow it to run. SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions. After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items IE-SpyAD - Extract the contents to a new folder From within the folder, double-click install.bat Select Option #2 - Install the new IE-SPYAD list. Then return to the main menu. Select option #4 - Add the old porn sites domain * * * * * * FIXING ENTRIES WITH HIJACKTHIS * * * * * * * * * * Do a HijackThis scan & place a check next to these items and select "Fix checked": R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing * * * * * * DELETING FILES/FOLDERS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Go to Start->Run and type in regsvr32 /u occache.dll and hit OK. Locate and delete the following files/folders: (let me know if you fail to find/delete any)
Go to Start->Run and type in regsvr32 occache.dll and hit OK. * * * * * * Run CleanUp! again & then reboot your machine. * * * * * * As Ewido failed to run in Safe Mode, it would be reassuring if we ran another online scan froma different vendor Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
*You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report. *Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Please delete these files: (they should go easily)
C:\secure32.html C:\WINDOWS\teller2.chk After that, your system is clean. Have you patched yourself against the WMF exploit yet? If not, please refer to my sig. Kindly follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Update all these programs regularly. Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released. Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically. Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein After doing all these, your system will be optimised against future threats. It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks if everything is working okay. Have a safe & happy computing day. ![]() Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
