Redirect (Adultfriendfinder)...HJT Log
I use FF as my browser, unless IE is required.
I followed the 5 required steps prior to this post. I get redirected to Adultfriendfinder quite often. Being as I can make friends on my own, I would prefer this removed. Help is much appreciated. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running.
Download Ewido Security Suite
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido. The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it. *NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! If you have a 64 bit Operating System do NOT run Cleanup and let me know as we will use another utility. Run Cleanup! using the following configuration: 1. Click Options... 2. Set the slider to Standard CleanUp! 3. Uncheck the following:
5. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted. * CleanUp! will not create any backups!! Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
** Ewido scan would require at least an hour. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Configs 32] msgconfigrs.exe O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Configs 32] msgconfigrs.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Configs 32] msgconfigrs.exe O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.MyCopper.net Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab: * Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders. * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. * Click Yes to confirm and then click OK. Delete the following Files/Folders if they exist: msgconfigrs.exe<<<Find Via Start>Search Restart in normal mode. Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan Click on the "Free To Use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here. Please return with logs from: Ewido Panda HJT

Clear FireFox cookies by opening FF, going to Tools>Options>Privacy>Cookies>Clear
Click on Start->Settings->Control Panel->Java Plug-in and click on the Cache tab. Then click on the Clear button and hit OK. If you have Java 1.5, do this instead. Start->Control Panel->Java->Settings->Delete Files and click OK and OK. See this page for complete instructions on how to clear java's cache. I believe these files to be associated with HP's Backweb program. I want you to upload these files to http://virusscan.jotti.org and report back what it found. C:\HP\bin\FondleWindow.exe C:\HP\bin\KillIt.exe C:\HP\bin\Terminator.exe How's your system behaving now?

OK,
1. C:\HP\bin\FondleWindow.exe Possibly infected/maleware - "the scanner that made the ID has more false positives than any other." or something to that effect. Fortinet reported: found ProcKill 2. C:\HP\bin\KillIt.exe Infected/Maleware Dr. Web reported: found Trojan.KillApp.30208 Fortinet reported: found Hacker Tool/Killapp 3. C:\HP\bin\Terminator.exe Possibly Infected/maleware - "it's been scanned before, the scanner that made the ID has more false positives than others" Fortinet reported: found HideWindow Thank you for your help! It's funny you mention that you thought these were related to the HP backweb. Whenever PC boots up I get a runner error about an invalid backweb action ID 137930. This started well before the redirect problem. I thought it resulted from an Spybot scan. Unfortunatly I did not have backup point before that scan, and let spybot make the fix. If you are familiar with this can you suggest a place to seek out answers to what has happened, and a possible fix. The redirect problem has been resolved. Thanks again!! This is an HP system. Backweb is/was part of their install package, and important to their automated software/driver updating procedure. Many sites identify this as spyware, due to the fact that it sends information about your computer without you actively participating.
See this entry: O4 - Global Startup: Updates from HP.lnk = C:\Program Files\Updates from HP\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe So, if you fixed any Backweb find with Spybot, you have harmed this, apparently, and it's now complaining to you (error message). Restore that from Spybot's Recovery folder, and the updating program should be fixed. HP's answer to this error message is to use the Recovery Process on your system, but that seems overly much. Once you restore the items Spybot fixed, you should be able to uninstall Backweb. Quote:

If you wish, you can rename them to a .old extension, which keeps them on your system, but renders them ineffective. Then, if they appear to be needed, by some software not functioning properly, rename them back to .exe files. Other than that....your logs are clean. Well done. Any more issues? If not you should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Reset hidden/system files and folders
Create a new System Restore point
Enable Windows Auto Update
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
If you do not have a firewall, here are 4 free ones available for personal use: In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
