Hijacked
Hi all,
I have had some bad going's on which only started tonight. My wallpaper was replaced by a "supposed" windows alert saying I was infected with spyware and now its all going to hell in a hand basket. The OS is XP Home and I have gone through an anti virus scan, MS Anti Spyware, Ad-Aware and SP S&D. Still I am getting issues with my browser being hijacked and some spyware is not being removed. Here is a log from HJT Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 1:16:53 AM, on 12/4/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\CDANTSRV.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\DVDRAMSV.exe C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\SMAgent.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\00THotkey.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe C:\WINDOWS\AGRSMMSG.exe C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\SoundMAX\PmProxy.exe C:\Program Files\Apoint2K\Apoint.exe C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TouchED\TouchED.Exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\TFNF5.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\TPWRTRAY.EXE C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasServ.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Gmail Notifier\gnotify.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasDtServ.exe C:\DOCUME~1\Colleen\LOCALS~1\Temp\A.tmp.exe C:\Program Files\Apoint2K\Apntex.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkaz.exe C:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\ashDisp.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkek32.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskmgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\RAMASST.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\MESSEN~1\ymsgr_tray.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.toshiba.com/search R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\pvreb.dll/sp.html#93256 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\pvreb.dll/sp.html#93256 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\pvreb.dll/sp.html#93256 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = http://www.yahoo.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = 192.168.0.153:8080 R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: Class - {3AF7AF61-E9EC-FF85-4730-D2B5711A9B30} - C:\WINDOWS\ipqv32.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll O2 - BHO: YahooTaggedBM Class - {65D886A2-7CA7-479B-BB95-14D1EFB7946A} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Common\YIeTagBm.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {9394EDE7-C8B5-483E-8773-474BF36AF6E4} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BDBD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: Yahoo! Im sorry I shouldve added some more details.
The wallpaper has been changed to a pic that says I am infected with spyware. My browsers home page has been changed to "About : Blank" and it is some crappy search engine that always comes up with pills or other stuff. I cannot change it back to what I want with any of the anti spyware programs. I was just watching my computer and MS Anti spyware keeps on putting up an orange screen saying a BHO has been blocked. I seen too much was happening so I yanked the network card and stopped it from getting out to the net. I also had the windows firewall popup saying it noticed suspicious activity on the network. The website that my new home page is downloading its pics from is called http://enjoywebsurf.com Here is a list of entries that SP S&D will not remove no matter how many times I try WildTangent: Settings (Registry value, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Java VM\ClassPath CDilla: Global settings (Registry key, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\C-Dilla CDilla: Executable (File, nothing done) C:\WINDOWS\CDILLA64.EXE CDilla: Executable (File, nothing done) C:\WINDOWS\CDILLA10.EXE CDilla: Library (File, nothing done) C:\WINDOWS\CDILLA05.DLL CDilla: Program directory (Directory, nothing done) c:\C_DILLA\ CDilla: Uninstall settings (Registry key, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\LMS CoolWWWSearch.Feat2Installer: Data (File, nothing done) C:\WINDOWS\system32\pestp.txt CoolWWWSearch.IELinks: IE Search URL (Registry change, nothing done) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search\SearchAssistant=about:blank CoolWWWSearch.IELinks: IE Search bar (Registry change, nothing done) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Search Bar=about:blank CoolWWWSearch.IELinks: IE Search bar (Registry change, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Search Bar=about:blank CoolWWWSearch.IELinks: IE Search page (Registry change, nothing done) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Search Page=http://www.google.com CoolWWWSearch.IELinks: IE Search page (Registry change, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Search Page=http://www.google.com CoolWWWSearch.IELinks: IE Search URL (Registry change, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search\SearchAssistant=about:blank CoolWWWSearch.IELinks: IE Search URL (Registry change, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Default_Search_URL=about:blank CoolWWWSearch.SearchKlick: Settings (Registry value, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\HSA\UninstallString CoolWWWSearch.SearchKlick: Settings (Registry value, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\HSA\DisplayName CoolWWWSearch: Settings (Registry key, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I CoolWWWSearch: Settings (Registry key, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\ 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I FunWebProducts: Settings (Registry key, nothing done) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Fun Web Products FunWebProducts: Settings (Registry key, nothing done) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Fun Web Products FunWebProducts: Settings (Registry key, nothing done) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Fun Web Products FunWebProducts: Settings (Registry key, nothing done) HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Fun Web Products Spy Sheriff: Settings (Registry change, nothing done) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-554876233-2347168215-3186290999-1005\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\ForceActiveDesktopOn!=dword:0 Trek Blue Error Nuker: Uninstall settings (Registry key, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SW Trek Blue Error Nuker: Uninstall settings (Registry key, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SE Trek Blue Error Nuker: Uninstall settings (Registry key, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\HSA Windows.ActiveDesktop: User settings (Registry change, nothing done) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-554876233-2347168215-3186290999-1005\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop\NoHTMLWallPaper!=W=1 Windows.Explorer: User settings (Registry change, nothing done) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-554876233-2347168215-3186290999-1005\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\ForceActiveDesktopOn!=W=0 I hope this helps out a little more. Hello PPGB and welcome to TSF,
This fix may take a few rounds as you have one of the more difficult CoolWebSearch infections. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad since you will not have any of browsers open while you are fixing this. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. Download the following programs and tools. Please do not run them until directed to do so. Ewido Security Suite
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido. HSFix About Buster - Unzip to a new folder. Update About Buster & exit the program once that is completed. CWShredder - Save it to Desktop.
Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it. Do not run it yet. --------------------------- S& D Spybot's Tea Timer While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things. Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
Microsoft AntiSpyware Please disable Microsoft AntiSpyware, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.
--------------------------- Go to My Computer->[b]Tools[b]->Folder Options->View tab: * Under the Hidden files and folders heading: * select Show hidden files and folders. * Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. * Click Yes to confirm and then click OK. --------------------------- Click Start->Run - type SERVICES.MSC & then click on the OK button *Locate the service - Network Security Service *Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog. *Under the General tab: *Stop the service by using the Stop button. *Change the Startup type to Disabled & then click on the OK button Then start HiJackThis & go to Config>Misc.Tools...> Delete an NT service... *In the popup box that appears, copy/paste 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I (**please note there is a space before the 11, make sure to include it.) Click on the OK button --------------------------- Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following: 1) Restart your computer 2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8. 3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear 4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter. --------------------------- Run a scan in HijackThis. 'Check' each of the following if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\pvreb.dll/sp.html#93256 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\pvreb.dll/sp.html#93256 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\pvreb.dll/sp.html#93256 R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing O2 - BHO: Class - {3AF7AF61-E9EC-FF85-4730-D2B5711A9B30} - C:\WINDOWS\ipqv32.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [A.tmp] C:\DOCUME~1\Colleen\LOCALS~1\Temp\A.tmp.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sdkaz.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkaz.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [A.tmp.exe] C:\DOCUME~1\Colleen\LOCALS~1\Temp\A.tmp.exe O16 - DPF: Yahoo! Bingo - O16 - DPF: Yahoo! Chat - O23 - Service: Network Security Service ( 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkek32.exe Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis. --------------------------- Delete the following Files if they still exist. C:\WINDOWS\ pvreb.dll C:\WINDOWS\ ipqv32.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\ sdkaz.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ sdkek32.exe --------------------------- Run CWShredder & click on [Fix]. Run About Buster and click Begin Removal. Once that's done, just hit the OK button. Open up the 'Ab LogFile.txt' (which was created in the same folder as AboutBuster) and post the log here. Double-click on HSfix.reg & answer YES when prompted to merge into the registry. Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows: *Click "Options..." *Move the arrow down to "Standard CleanUp!" *Uncheck the following: -Delete Newsgroup cache -Delete Newsgroup Subscriptions -Scan local drives for temporary files Click OK Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Do NOT reboot/logoff when prompted. Note: [b][color=teal][size=1]CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! --------------------------- Run Ewido: *Click [Scanner] *Click [Complete System Scan] to begin scanning. *Click [OK] when prompted to clean files With the first file it prompts to clean, select the option - "Perform action on all infections" - & choose clean and click [OK]. Once finished, click the [Save report] button Save the report to your desktop Close Ewido --------------------------- Reboot into Normal Mode. Please run an online scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm *Requires Internet Explorer. Make sure you click the "Free Online Virus Scan" in the upper right hand corner of the page under the Free use Activescan header. We do NOT want the default spyXposer scan.
So I need the following logs: Ewido Results Ab LogFile.txt Panda ActiveScan HijackThis |

All the entries that I need to remove are not from
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\pvreb.dll/sp.html#93256 to R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\estpl.dll/sp.html#93256 Looking at the log the dll has changed, should I go ahead and remove the new estpl.dll entries instead of the pvreb.dll |

Bumping in less the 24 hours is generally frowned upon, but I understand your plight...you can't continue until you know...so.....
FIX ALL R0 & R1 ENTRIES THAT LOOKS SIMILAR TO THIS - res://C:\WINDOWS\****.dll/sp.htm and make note of the dll names for deletion in the fix where noted.

Hi and Welcome to TSF
Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running.
Also make sure you are using the the latest version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and it's installed in it's own folder on the root drive. (C:\HJT) Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {9394EDE7-C8B5-483E-8773-474BF36AF6E4} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BDBD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - (no file) O16 - DPF: ConferenceRoom Java Client - O16 - DPF: {02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B} (QuickTime Object) - O16 - DPF: {230C3D02-DA27-11D2-8612-00A0C93EEA3C} (SAXFile FileUpload ActiveX Control) - O16 - DPF: {30528230-99F7-4BB4-88D8-FA1D4F56A2AB} (YInstStarter Class) - O16 - DPF: {4F1E5B1A-2A80-42CA-8532-2D05CB959537} (MSN Photo Upload Tool) - O16 - DPF: {8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93} (Java Plug-in 1.5.0_02) - O16 - DPF: {B9191F79-5613-4C76-AA2A-398534BB8999} - O16 - DPF: {C3DFA998-A486-11D4-AA25-00C04F72DAEB} (MSN Photo Upload Tool) - O16 - DPF: {CA1811B0-28B5-44AB-8DB3-DC9BEAA77D04} - O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0015-0000-0001-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.5.0_01) - O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0015-0000-0002-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.5.0_02) - O16 - DPF: {D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000} (Shockwave Flash Object) - Please download Trend Micro™ Anti-Spyware for the Web Utility (by clicking the "Scan and Clean your PC" button).
Reboot your computer. In place of the TrendMicro icon will be a text file called "Antispyware.log". I then need you to repeat the same procedure above again... using the TrendMicro scan tool. I need the log from the second scan/clean...NOT the first...as this will contain what’s left in the system. Let us know how things are running.

The C-Dilla entrys are normal. It's installed...so the registry entrys remain.
C-Dilla License Management software. Used for any program that uses C-dilla Protection, example: 3D Studio Max 4.x and some PC games. Removing it may disable some some of the games or the program that installed it from starting. We can remove it if you want but be aware of what I stated. Because you had a "Desktop" hijack and "Spysheriff" is indicated..I'm going to run it's fix...just to make sure nothing is left over. Skip getting the tools you already have...but run them were indicated in the fix. Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop. Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop. Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop. Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ Please read Ewido Setup Instructions Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet. If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates: Ad-Aware SE Setup Don't run it yet! Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
Open add/remove programs and remove Fun Web Products if listed. Click START…RUN…Type in regedit. Make sure just “My Computer” is showing in the left pane and click..FILE….EXPORT…and save a copy some were in case you make a mistake. Now navigate to each of the following keys and delete the file/folder/entry I highlighted in RED. HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\ Fun Web Products HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\ Fun Web Products HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\ Fun Web Products HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\ Fun Web Products Close Regedit. Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply. Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds. Run Ewido:
Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present. Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut. - Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button - A new window will open...click the Check Now button - Enter your Country - Enter your State/Province - Enter your e-mail address and click send - Select either Home User or Company - Click the big Scan Now button - If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it - It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes) - When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan - When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply. *Note* Update your version of Spybot to 1.4.

Your comment at the end was cut off.....
Any items in System Volume Information can be removed by flushing the System Restore points, which we will do when we are sure you are clean. As Panda found nothing, and your HJT log appears clean, and Ewido found only cookies, I would like to know how your system is behaving before sending you off with final instructions.

Grrr cut off comment, lol,
I believe I was saying that it disturbs me that these files are being found in the System Restore. Ive been told that these bad files can be restored and infecting the computer again. The computer is running fine, I came across another post that subs said were some good programs so Ive installed those programs as well to help stop future infections. Yes, if you were to use System Restore to go back to a point where these infections were present, a reinfection could occur. Now that we know you're satisfied, I'll post some final instrutctions for you, including a reset of a new, clean System Restore point. You've already taken care of some of what will be posted.....it's my standard closing speech....so ignore reference to those programs you've already installed. Here goes:
Well done. Your logs are clean. Any more issues? If not you should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Reset hidden/system files and folders
Create a new System Restore point
Enable Windows Auto Update
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
If you do not have a firewall, here are 4 free ones available for personal use: In light of your recent troubles, I'm sure you'll like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
