need help with dreaded virtumonde
hey tech support people-
I have what appears to be the usual problems associated with virtumonde: slowing of my computer, pop-ups, tried with conventional AV to get rid of it...but it just rebuilds itself. HELP! I have followed the 5 steps to get this point. Hope you guys can help. Thanks in advance. Here's my HJT log. Yes I have, except there were a couple that I could not find...they weren't in HJT when I went to delete them. I fix/deleted all the others that were there though. I'm at work now away from my home pc, do you need to know which ones they were?

I asked bcos your HJT log appears as though nothing was done.
When you get home, please ensure that these entries gets fixed by HijackThis: R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://bfc.myway.com/search/de_srchlft.html R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.dell.myway.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...rch/search.html R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.dell4me.com/myway R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyServer = :0 R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file) O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {CE70731D-F28D-4D81-9D61-C8EE60378401} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqn.dll O20 - Winlogon Notify: sstqn - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqn.dll O20 - Winlogon Notify: xmlcr - C:\WINDOWS\system\xmlcr.dll (file missing) After you have done that, reboot into Safe mode Locate & delete these files: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\geeba.dll C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pmnnn.dll Empty the recycle bin & reboot back to N/mode to post a fresh HJT log

I think what I did was run the HJT right after the reboot from VBG scan...I then did the Cleanup!, went back into HJT and checked all that I could find, hit fix and then closed HJT out. Possible that I posted the log from right after the VBG scan...I 'll check when I get home and make sure I did as you instructed as well as doing the follow up above. Thanks again.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\geeba.dll or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pmnnn.dll Any suggestions? Maybe I'm not looking in the correct way? I went to my C drive...then WINDOWS ...then SYSTEM32 Couldn't locate them. |

Download & launch KillBox v2.0.0.175.exe (it's important that you get version v2.0.0.175)
Select the following option - delete on Reboot Use your mouse to select all the filenames listed below & then right-click & select Copy
* Click the RED X button. * Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. * Click Yes at the 'Pending Operations prompt'. Quote:
Please post another log when you're done.

Ok sUBs I downloaded and ran Killbox as you instructed with no problems. Ran an activescan on system32 just incase...it showed no virus found but didn't offer a report log this time. Here's a new HJT log:

Your system is clean. Kindly follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Update all these programs regularly. Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released. Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically. Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein After doing all these, your system will be optimised against future threats. It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks if everything is working okay. Have a safe & happy computing day. ![]() Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
