winstall.exe, CWS.LoadAdv.400

ok. So i had some people staying with me download some things and sence they moved out iv had nothing but problems. adds from no where, porn ads, and every viris search program telling me that iv got over 5 trogins yet NONE of them get ride of them. Every time i reboot, iv got less disk space then the time before and the virus's are back.
heres what iv done according to your 5 step procces.

Step 1
Ad-Aware® SE Personal Edition
Downloaded Vx2.
Spybot Search & Destroy
CWShredder

Ran all 3. all said they found things, all said they deleted them.

Step 2
you listed some online virus scans.. i did those and got some interesting results.mostly saying things couldnt be deleted.

Step 3,4 were also completed.. i couldt not finish step 5 though. every time microsoft showed me the update to download, it would start, then stop saying it was unable to download.

the is located hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run value:windows installer

the others i dont know here they are at. it just says it found them.

here is the hijackthis log.

Thanks for being so patient

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Downloads

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:

*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temporary folders and does not make backups.If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!

=========================================

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  1. Restart your computer
  2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.

hi joshuajared2000

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Ad-Aware's AdWatch

Please disable AdWatch, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.
To disable AdWatch:
  • Open AdAware SE.
  • Go to AdWatch User Interface.
  • Go to Tools and Preferences.
  • At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options Active and Automatic.
  • Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
  • Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically
  • Uncheck both options. You can enable these after resolving your problem.
Unless they are turned off they could interfere with the fix by HijackThis.

=========================================

Download and unzip BFUzip from http://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip
Run the program and click the Web button as shown here:

Use this URL to copy into the address bar of the Download script window:
http://metallica.geekstogo.com/p2pnetwork.bfu

Execute the script by clicking the Execute button.

If you have any questions about the use of BFU please read here:
http://metallica.geekstogo.com/BFUinstructions.html

=========================================

Click > Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs:

RSSoft
Viewpoint

  1. Locate the service - atcservice Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog.

    • Stop the service by using the Stop button.
    • Change the Startup type to Disabled & then click on the OK button
  2. Then start HiJackThis & go to Config>Misc.Tools...> Delete an NT service...

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked. (make sure you do not miss any)[/b]

* Go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard
* Click the RED X button.
* Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
* Click Yes at the 'Pending Operations prompt'.

Move the slider button down to Custom CleanUp!

Check the following:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Uncheck the following :
  • Scan local drives for temporary files

Click OK, Press the CleanUp! button to start the program and reboot when prompted.

* CleanUp! will not create any backups!!

=========================================

Please download Trend Micro Anti-Spyware for the Web Utility (by clicking the "Scan and Clean your PC" button).
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click the new icon on your desktop (tmas-web-scan.exe)
  • It will say "Loading TrendMicro definitions".
  • Once the definitions are loaded, the program will appear to close then re-open.
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • After it's done scanning, click "Scan Results"
  • Make sure all items found have a check next to them, then click "Clean Threats Now".
  • Click Exit.
Reboot your computer. In place of the TrendMicro icon will be a text file called "Antispyware.log."

Repeat the same procedure above using the TrendMicro tool. Post the log from the second scan/clean, NOT the first, as this will contain what’s left in the system.

=========================================

Please post a fresh Hijack This log so that we can check if your system is clean.

It is important that all HijackThis logs be done in normal mode and NOT safe mode.

=========================================

In your next post I will need fresh logs from:

1)HijackThis
2)Antispyware log

Well done joshuajared2000. Your log is clean, just a few things left to do.

Open Internet Explorer
*click on tools
*click on Internet Options
*click on the genral tab
Under the heading of Temporary Internet Files
*click on delete files
when the file deletion Prompt comes up click ok,this could take a few minutes to complete.
when it finishes close Internet Options.

=========================================

If your not having any more problems carry on with the steps below,
otherwise let me know what problems you are having in your next post.

=========================================

Now that your system is clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Reset hidden/system files and folders
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option.
  • Select the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Select the Hide protected operating system files option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

SECURING INTERNET EXPLORER
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Internet Options.
  • Select the Security tab
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Select Custom Level .
    • Change 'Download signed ActiveX controls' to Prompt
    • Change 'Download unsigned ActiveX controls' to Disable
    • Change 'Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe' to Disable
    • Change 'Installation of desktop items' to Prompt
    • Change 'Launching programs and files in an IFRAME' to Prompt
    • Change 'Navigate sub-frames across different domains' to Prompt
    • When all these changes have been made, click on the OK button.
    • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
  • Select OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Microsoft Windows Update
Visit windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer always has the latest security updates. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:

ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE
It is very important that you have anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

Here are two very good free Antivirus products which are available:

Avast!

AVG

It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.Make sure that you only install one antivirus progarm as they can confict with each other.

FIREWALL
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. A tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones can be found here

SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.

SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.

SPYBOT - SEARCH & DESTROY
Download and install Spybot - Search & Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here

AD-AWARE
Download and install Ad-Aware. You should use this program to scan your computer on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here

IE-SPYAD
IE/Spyad places more than 4000 dubious websites and domains in the IE Restricted list. This severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites. A tutorial on installing this product can be found here

MVPS HOST FILE
The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one that will restrict known ad sites form serving you unsolicited advertisements. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is the IP of your local computer. It can be downloaded here - MVPS Hosts file

Winpatrol - Download and install the free version of Winpatrol.
A tutorial for this product is located here:
Using Winpatrol to protect your computer from malicious software

Update all these programs regularly. Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein
