My System

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Also if you have any programs that may prevent system changes (like Spybot's TeaTimer program, Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, and others), make sure you disable them before doing any of the fixes (or accept the changes for the fix we give you when asked by the programs).

Go to My Computer->Tools (or View)->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders (it's Show all files for Windows 98).
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs (run in Safe Mode) already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Ewido (only if you have Windows 2000 or XP). If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode (if you don't know how, go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/foru...howtutorial=61 ). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if found:

MessengerPlus! 3 - make sure it's gone now

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you check the last one:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Internet Junk Math First] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Datos de programa\Byte bone internet junk\bin coal.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Archivos de programa\MessengerPlus! 3\MsgPlus.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Archivos de programa\MessengerPlus! 3\MsgPlus.exe" /WinStart

Locate the following Files/Folders and delete them if they exist (if no location given, just do a search for them):

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Datos de programa\Byte bone internet junk\
C:\Archivos de programa\MessengerPlus! 3\

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Ok, first I would like to know if the problem come from MSN Plus, this because I have this program installed in other computer and there is no problem, so I would like to know if it is strongly necessary to uninstall the program (and also to do it in the other computer)

Thanks

Yes..it came with MSN+. You installed it with "AD" support so it installed the LOP infection. Remove it.

I have one finally question:

I can install MSN Plus without the "AD" Support without causing any spyware problems in my computer? Or you strongly recommend not to use this program?

Thanks

Well.... I personally hate any program that hides adware in it no matter what it is. If you absolutley MUST have it....then install it but make sure sure the ad crap is not installed...otherwise you'll be right back were you started.

Your logs are clean. Any more issues? If not you should be good to go. We still have a few more items to address so please follow the instructions below.

Reset hidden/system files and folders

Windows XP
===============
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option.
  • Select the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Select the Hide protected operating system files option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Windows 2000
===============
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Select the Advanced settings box option.
  • Select the Hidden files Folders.
  • Deselect the Show all files option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Windows ME
===============
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option.
  • Select the Hide protected operating system files option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Windows 95/98/98SE
===============
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the View
  • Select the Folder Options option.
  • Select the View tab. option.
  • Select the Advance Advanced settings box option.
  • Select the Hidden files folder.
  • Deselect the Show all files option
  • Click Apply to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Create a new System Restore point

Windows XP
===============
  • Click Start >> Run - type SYSDM.CPL & press Enter
  • Select the System Restore Tab
  • Tick on the checkbox - "Turn off System Restore on all drives"
  • Click Apply
  • Then untick the same checkbox & click OK
  • This deletes ALL restore points that had the infection and creates a clean one

Windows ME
===============
  • Click the Start tab.
  • Select the Settings option.
  • Select the Control Panel option.
  • Double Click the System icon Performance tab option.
  • Select File System
  • Select the Troubleshooting tab
  • Check the Disable System Restore box
  • Click Apply to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Reboot the PC and repeat the above procedure again
When you get to this option
  • Uncheck the Disable System Restore box

For Windows ME..we MUST create a new restore point now as Windows ME will not create one automatically until the computer has been on for 10 hours or 24 hours has passed. To create a new restore point follow the procedure below.
  • Click the Start button.
  • Point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
  • Choose Create a restore point, and then click Next.
  • In the Restore point description box, type a name for your restore point, and then click Next.
    Click OK

Enable Windows Auto Update

Recommended Protection Programs

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
  • WinPatrol to monitor any changes that programs make to the registry.

If you do not have a firewall, here are 4 free ones available for personal use:

Ok, I don´t understand well this pont:

"Reboot the PC and repeat the above procedure again
When you get to this option
Uncheck the Disable System Restore box"

This mean that when the computer restart, I have to uncheck the Disable System Restore box that I previous check in "Create a new System Restore point" step??

I also have one problem with a computer that is running very slow, more than the usual speed, so I would appreciate you can view my log... Should I post it here or in a new post?

Thanks very much

The Speech is set to cover all Windows operating systems. Your only concerned with the XP parts. What you posted is the procedure for Windows ME.

XP is easy...simply checkmark the box that says "Turn off System Restore on all drives" then remove the checkmark (NO Need to reboot)

This wipes out all old restore points and creates a fresh new one thats clean. As for your other issue...start a new thread.
