HJT Log for a Trojan Virus
The following is the virus on my computer:
Threat: Trojan.Vundo File: C:\System Volume Information\_restore{B37680B2-BA0A-4E5D-BF30-83E44C588624}\RP279\A0015204.dll Location: C:\System Volume Information\_restore{B37680B2-BA0A-4E5D-BF30-83E44C588624}\RP279 I have had no noticable symptons other than the Symantec Antivirus Notification Box popping up repeatedly, displaying the above message. I have used the HJT Analyzer to get the "new log." ==================================================================== Log was analyzed using KRC HijackThis Analyzer - Updated on 9/28/05 Get updates at http://www.greyknight17.com/download.htm#programs ***Security Programs Detected*** C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\DefWatch.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\Rtvscan.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\PROGRA~1\SYMANT~1\VPTray.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasServ.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgcc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgemc.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasDtServ.exe O4 - New online scan and HJT log
I moved HJT this to the Program Files doing the steps you mentioned in the previous reply. When I start HJT, it mentions that is has been started from a temporary folder. The HJT folder is located in my program files. Also, I now have a desktop icon called desktop.ini. When I double click the icon, this text file opens:
[LocalizedFileNames] Windows Media Player.lnk=@C:\WINDOWS\inf\unregmp2.exe,-4 Here is the results from the online scan. I did not see where I could remove these files, so they are still on my computer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KASPERSKY ON-LINE SCANNER REPORT Monday, October 17, 2005 19:34:17 Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2 (Build 2600) Kaspersky On-line Scanner version: 5.0.67.0 Kaspersky Anti-Virus database last update: 18/10/2005 Kaspersky Anti-Virus database records: 145334 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scan Settings: Scan using the following antivirus database: standard Scan Archives: true Scan Mail Bases: true Scan Target - My Computer: A:\ C:\ D:\ E:\ Scan Statistics: Total number of scanned objects: 64637 Number of viruses found: 2 Number of infected objects: 6 Number of suspicious objects: 0 Duration of the scan process: 2250 sec Infected Object Name - Virus Name C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine\048C0000.VBN Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Small.bpk C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine\0D180000.VBN Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Small.bpk C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine\0D540000.VBN Infected: Exploit.HTML.Mht C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine\0D800000.VBN Infected: Exploit.HTML.Mht C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine\0FB00000.VBN Infected: Exploit.HTML.Mht C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine\0FB00001.VBN Infected: Exploit.HTML.Mht Scan process completed. LOL..The file you moved to the Program Files folder isnt exactly what I meant. It appears to be a zipped file. I want the file that it contains within. You should extract that file into the folder you just created.
Whenever you use HJT to fix any entries, it will create backups. These backups would be placed in the Program Files folder. If HJT was running from a temporary directory, those backup files would be scattered somewhere else in your computer where HJT wouldnt be able to find. No worry though, I havent had you do any critical fixing with HJT. The loss of the backups shouldnt be monumental. Kaspersky's online scan found some infected files in Norton's quarantine folder. Please use Symantec's guide to remove the infected files. I would also like you to look at the first post of this thread. If you compare the HJT log there & the current HJT log you just posted, you would realise thatyou just posted half a log. May I have the other half please.

Your system is clean. Please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Update all these programs regularly. Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released. Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically. Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein After doing all these, your system will be optimised against future threats. It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks if everything is working okay. Have a safe & happy computing day. ![]() Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
