Extremely Slow Shut Down

I am having problems shutting down/restarting my computer. I have run Spybot, Adaware, and my Norton Virus Scan, and nothing shows up. But, my computer still takes close to 5 mintes or sometimes alot more to shut down. A error message regarding the closing of a program (the one with the button asking you to cancel or end program now) pops up, but it is only for a split second and I cannot read the program name. Here is my HijackThis Log, and thanks for any help:

My System

Nothing ugly lookin in that log, couple optionals though. Before commencing i would like to rule out malware as an option.

Please download Trend Micro™ Anti-Spyware for the Web Utility (by clicking the "Scan and Clean your PC" button).
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click the new icon on your desktop (tmas-web-scan.exe)
  • It will say "Loading TrendMicro definitions".
  • Once the definitions are loaded, the program will appear to close then re-open.
  • Click Start Scan
  • After it's done scanning, click Scan Results
  • Make sure all items found have a check next to them, then click Clean Threats Now.
  • Click Exit.
Reboot your computer. In place of the TrendMicro icon will be a text file called Antispyware.log, please double-click that log and copy the entire contents and paste them here.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
  1. Click Scan your PC & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
  2. Click Scan Now
  3. Enter your e-mail address & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  • Click on see report. Then click Save report
Post the contents of the report in your next reply along with a new HJT log

*You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
*Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Please post a fresh HijackThis log, the TrendMicro Antispyware log, & the Log from Panda so that we can check if your system is clean.

The Panda program did not find any viruses or malicious software. My computer still takes just as long to shut down.

Hello splatter24,

Let's try this and see if it helps.

Download LSPFix http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/LSPFix.exe

Run LSPFix..put a tick in "I know what I'm doing...
In the left column HIGHLIGHT the file mdnsnsp.dll
Click the right pointing arrow and ADD to the REMOVE column
Scroll down and click Finish

Reboot. Any improvement?

Shut down time is still very long, however I think it may be shorter than before. Is there anything else I can try?

I'm still not seeing anything malware specific that would be causing your shutdown problem.

I would suggest posting this problem in the Windows XP Forum and let the experts there assist you further. Please let them know you've been declared 'clean' in the HijackThis Forum.
