A plague on Winfixer!
I tried to follow the instructions provided for some other users who have had trouble with this malware, but I got stopped because I can't get into Safe Mode, or rather I can, but after selecting my user profile, my desktop never comes up so I can't proceed. What gives? Should I just proceed with cleanup instructions without using Safe Mode?
Every time I tried running Panda ActiveScan it froze, but here are logs from running l2mfix and Hijackthis: Setting Directory C:\ C:\ System Rebooted! Nope...
When I try going through Task Manager, the desktop program flashes in and out of view in the TM window and nothing else happens. Also, the window that pops up to let you accept Safe Mode just flashes by too. |

Hello, I am moving your thread to the HijackThis Forum. Please subscribe so that you can be advised to any responses.
Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted. Please download VundoFix.exe at http://www.atribune.org/downloads/VundoFix.exe to your desktop. * Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files. * After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key (or F5 in some machines) until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter. * Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat * Please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!): C:\WINDOWS\System32\vtutu.dll * Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix. * The fix will run then HijackThis will open. * In HijackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED: R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...://my.yahoo.com R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing O2 - BHO: (no name) - SOFTWARE - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00DBDAC8-4691-4797-8E6A-7C6AB89BC441} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mllmm.dll O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {52B1DFC7-AAFC-4362-B103-868B0683C697} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\vtutu.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7A1693A1-AFAF-4F1E-9B05-EEC38A85FBF3} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nkrh.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: SDWin32 Class - {7A3BC694-08E7-455E-A03C-A2CEF81D1FC1} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\spcdb.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [j4a9kh.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\j4a9kh.exe /k O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [j4a9kh.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\j4a9kh.exe /k O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusear...US_ZBYYYYYYYYUS O16 - DPF: {8C875948-9C60-4381-9248-0DF180542D53} (SbInstObj) - http://installs.spamblockerutility....ckerutility.cab * After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer. * Pressing any key will cause a 'Blue Screen of Death' this is normal, do not worry! * Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below. Download and install CleanUp! http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CleanUp.exe Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows: Click 'Options...' Move the arrow down to 'Custom CleanUp!' Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!): * Empty Recycle Bins * Delete Cookies * Delete Prefetch files * Cleanup! All Users Click OK. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO. Then, please run an online virus scan at ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/ Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Not out of the woods yet
You asked for the ActiveScan report, but I don't think you want to see it... It goes on for an eternity. Boy is there a lot of junk that needs purging.
For starters, here is the latest HJT log and the vundofix file. I'm putting the ActiveScan report in a separate entry in this thread because I've already tried once and couldn't get everything through in one. For good measure I ran Symantec and Adaware again, and even though I just ran them a few days ago they picked up more stuff. Though I regularly update and run these plus Spybot, I clearly need to take more measures. Please use a zip utility like winzip to compress it. That should dramatically reduce the file size.

Part 2, sort of
Right - I got lucky on the size of the first attachment. I've broken what's left into 3 more and still can't get them to upload. It's thousands of entries for the same Adware/Adtomi. Trojan Hunter identified it, but I thought was also helping disable it.
What follows is the tail end of the ActiveScan report, which shows something other than this trojan and I hope is helpful: Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FF1.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FF2.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FF3.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FF4.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FF5.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FF6.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FF7.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FF8.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FF9.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FFA.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FFB.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FFC.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FFD.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FFE.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FFF.tmp Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\j4a9kh.exe Adware:Adware/StartPage.AIW No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mllmm.dll Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nkrh.dll.tcf Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nkrh.dll3393.tcf Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nkrh.dll367.tcf Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nkrh.dll3884.tcf Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nkrh.dll495.tcf Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nkrh.dll5022.tcf Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nkrh.dll6922.tcf Adware:Adware/Adtomi No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nkrh.dll8145.tcf Virus:Trj/Downloader.UO Disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\PlayBingoOnline.exe.tcf Virus:Trj/Kolweb.E Disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\rg84xz.dll Adware:Adware/nCase No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SplWbr.dll Spyware:Spyware/Virtumonde No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\vtutu.dll Dialer:Dialer.BZR No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\WildFlics.exe Should I keep trying to attach the rest of the log? |

Let's have the full log as a zip attachment. It's much easier to work with.
Thanks

That's not so bad. You only have 53,000 viruses on your machine.
![]() What say you if I ask you to manually delete each & every one of them? LOL..Don't panic. I'll be back with a workaround for ya in a while

Please print these instructions out
Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. Restart your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter. Once in safe mode, enable the viewing of Hidden files From Windows Explorer, go to Tools>Folder Options> View tab.
Locate and delete the following folders, if present:
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Then Go to Start > Run - type cmd <Press Enter> ..this opens the comand prompt type del /q C:\Windows\system32\*.tmp <Press Enter> type exit <Press Enter> * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat At the introductory screen, press <Enter> to proceed. When asked to type in a filepath, please key this in:
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Next you will be asked to type in a second filepath. At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The fix should then automatically launch HijackThis. (if it doesn't, you'll have to do it manually) In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:
Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * After you have rebooted, open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows: Click "Options..." Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!" Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Then, perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Yeh, I was pretty amazed too. And now... drumbeat...
we're down to 52,144! Hard to imagine the system runs at all with so much crud. Isn't it reassuring that there are dozens of Joes cranking out new snares for clots like me for every one of you who's diligently working to save our butts? Guess you gotta love the work! Glad for my sake that someone does. So... In safe mode, deleted all files but system32.mllmm.dll, which was "in use." Didn't find 2 of the items for fixes in HJT (the mllmm and vtutu DLLs). New HJT and vundo logs below. ActiveScan report attached. Looking good.
Let's get Panda to direct a scan at the C:\Windows\System32 directory. I wanna know how many of your 52,144 friends are still around. Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan

LOL...We're mass murderers of malware.
Your system is clean. Please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Update all these programs regularly. Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released. Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically. Here are some additional utilities that will further enhance your safety.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein After doing all these, your system will be optimised against future threats. It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder in a couple weeks if everything is working okay. Have a safe & happy computing day. ![]() Please respond to this thread one more time so we can mark this thread as resolved.
